Will Prince look bad performing some songs when he older?

I hope he continues to perform up until an age where he still looks good or he will just perform past his sell by date and become a shadow of himself...Or do both ala BB King, James Brown..that list goes on...Some good nights, some embarassing to the talent they have or once had.

But what songs can you not see him doing in say 15/20 years time..Will it be more acoustic/live lounge type shows or stadium concerts when he is 65/70?

James Brown performed Sex Machine right up until the last show, but it became a caracature by the end..Then again , man's world became more heartfelt and better in some sense.

Prince has a good instinct for what he should and shouldn't sing though at present and for the future...right?

^Hmmm, interesting future sketch. The outfit looks right, but I doubt he'll ever grow a beard that long wink

That said, if he pulled out "Crystal Ball" at 90 I'd still be delighted!

Although, with recent talk of someone else eventually releasing stuff in the vault because he couldn't possibly have time to release it all, and likening the "Rebuild the Dream" project to cleaning up a hall for the next person before you leave, I'm concerned that his philosophies around aging are changing. Perhaps he's just sharing what he thinks the masses are more comfortable with hearing, but perhaps he's also succumbed to traditional views on the topic.

If he can get back to seeing age as "just a number" and can let go of phrases like "old skin", I believe he could perform any song for as long as he wants. But if he decides to get OLD rather than get older, well then, that's another matter.

I'm sorry to say, he will be dead by that stage. I honestly see him dying in the next few years, sorry I have a sixth sense.

But if he is alive, I still see Controversy as the opener, that song is the mother of opening jams at a Prince concert, seriously look back at his history, how many times has he played at the beginning of a show.

And Purple Rain will be in te show either at the end of the main set or as an encore. He's got used to playing all the hits so its safe to say most of these will be in a line up

1999, Little Red Corvette, Lets Go Crazy, Delirious, Kiss, Cream, ICNTTPOYM, Raspberry Beret, I would die 4 U, Dance 4 me, Love thy will b done, nothing compares 2 u.

And whatever new album is in the charts or he's promoting he may add it to the set.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

a few years ago I saw Gladys Knight and 1 of the Pipps was with her, he was in his 70s he was bumping girating and moving very sensually and the Crowd loved it, and the ladies white black mixed etc LOVED him they went wild,

he looked good hes obviously in shape, trim, dressed good, nice pants shoes and a silk shirt opened a few buttons

so Id say if Prince kept working out taking care of himself etc 70 he could still do sexy songs easily

If Tina Turner could come out of retirement and sell out the huge shows and be sexy Prince can

I could see Prince doing huge stages with more crowd pleasers and smaller clubs with more risque stuff

There are ways to perform the songs that feel like you are telling a story even now he could do Head or Darlin Nikki in parts as if hes singing of something he heard of, the stories supposedly arent 100% real or not real at all so it shouldnt have to reflect where he is in life or age

I would see Prince at any age - hasnt stopped the Stones eh? Mick Jagger looked 80 at 40 !!!!!!

It is about the music.

Although I do believe you have to alter things depending on your age (eg. Madonna - flashing the boobie is not a good look at her age) - but you can always have style and be funky at any age !!!!

And Prince is Mr Funk.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I'll say you are never too old to rock and roll. The Rolling Stones pretty much made it fashionable for fortysomethings to tour in the 80s, fiftysomethings in the 90s, 60somethings in the 00s and now they moving into their 70s, I remember all those joke cartoons in the 80s showing Mick as a pensioner on a zimmer frame with big droopy lips and keith richards as a bandanned skeleton playing a guitar made out of a human femur.

Plus all tehse other 68 to 70 somethings are not slowing down, Ms Streisand is about to tour again and charge her usual ridiculous ticket prices, we had the Moody Blues this year, Elton, Madge, the list goes on. Bob Dylan has just dropped another album, he's going to be 70 very soon.

Even Prince has started it, how much new music does he play - he's becomea jukebox of 1980s hits now rather than his modern stuff, and he uses a videoprompt on stage as he is forgetting the lyrics to his now silver aged songs.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It doesn't matter what he looks like, Prince will always be Prince and as long as there's an audience, I think he will always perform. It's in his blood.

But what songs can you not see him doing in say 15/20 years time..Will it be more acoustic/live lounge type shows or stadium concerts when he is 65/70?

Just acoustic live shows? Well time, hurry up then! lol I can't see him jumping on and off pianos at that age, but as long as he's still doing his music tastefully dressed and remembers the lyrics he could still do stadium shows, though I guess they'll be a little lower in energy than those of today. Being hyperactive myself, I can imagine he must have been hell to be around 20 years ago. He's still energetic but it does slow down with age, eventually! It's funny, I'm sure Prince fans know his lyrics far better than he does.

Prince has a good instinct for what he should and shouldn't sing though at present and for the future...right?

I know very little about James Brown.

Is it instinct or professional know-how? Probably both. I suppose what he sings now, must be lyrics that reflect where he's at and not categorise him as the past sex-god, coz he's got more talent than just that. I'm sure as time goes on, we'll hear more of his later work i.e. 2000 onwards and knowing Prince, I'm sure he's got a thing or two up his sleeve for the future.

To Adorecream: Quite a bundle of joy you are and what a horrible thing to say.

Yes he could....but he's already toned things down a lot naturally in terms of making his shows more family friendly etc so don't think he will look bad.

I like to think he will carry on and on performing like James Brown....Stevie Wonder etc etc
