Songs that I remember remembering...

Song, song- "Joy to the World" - Three Dog Night (I was 4 yrs old)

Prince song- "I Wanna Be Your Lover", but at the time I didn't know it was Prince.

Prince song- "Little Red Corvette" made a point to find out who it was.
I'm firmly planted in denial

First Prince song I heard was either "Let's Go Crazy" or "When Doves Cry," played on a jukebox at a pizza place by some tween female fans in 1984 when I was ten. I don't remember which; I think they were playing both of them over and over.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Little Red Corvette

Then I saw him on MTV and was drawn in my his dance moves. I remember thinking, how can he move like that in those tight jeans? He is erotic. I was 17 and he was a forbidden fantasy. Now he's just plain cool.

I'm sure I'd heard earlier stuff without realising who it was, but the song I always link with me noticing (and falling for) Prince was My Name Is Prince.

Shortly after that I learnt that his name was not, in fact, Prince.

He was confusing. And inexplicably sexy. And so very funky.

And remains so to this day.

Done 2 Death!!!!

It was Little Red Corvette in 1983, It was another song the radio, had little impact on my 7 year old mind.

The first song I remember actually knowing it was Prince was Raspberry Beret about August of 1985. I was 9. It reminded me of Raspberry flavoured Popsicles, the Munch Bunch and a brand of yoghurt we had here called Hi Life featuring Munch bunch knock off characters.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Eh, don't remember exactly. Must have been something on the radio and I do remember also watching Tim Burton's Batman when it came out and when I was 9 or 10 (so I must have heard his music by that point).

The first song that I really have vivid memories of was "Cream" when it came out. That's when I really realized who Prince was. You know, I was twelve, just going through my sexual awakening and then there were all those early-90s videos full of women in lingerie rubbing their bodies against each other. That period scarred me for life. disbelief

I wanna Be Your Lover - on the radio - I was a freshman in high school and some girls were talking about him saying that this Prince guy was gay - which perked my interest as I was dealing with those feelings at the same time - thanks P for helping me come out of the closet biggrin

It was at a jazz funk club I was too young get into (I'd gotten in though) and when this tune started all the dizzy-feet dancers rushed the dancefloor.

'dizzy-feet' was a mixture of footwork, floor work, popping and tap dancing...

The vibe was ace!!

First song by someone other than Prince, would have to be my mother singing "My baby's gone down the plug hole" to me when I was about 2. She used to bathe us together (My brother was 4 or 5) and then she would pull the plug out as she was singing that song and man if you have ever seen a little boy scramble up the sides of a bathtub so fast...

When Doves Cry. I think my mom had the 12" and I used to play it over and over and over and over. I think I was like maybe 4. Finally I went to my cousins house to watch the movie and fell in love even more. I believe the first video I remember seeing was Glamorous Life however and Kiss....think thats the first time I KNEW who he was.

Of course if it's When Doves Cry.

I mean if you remember well, you HAD to stop what you were doing and lend an ear. The sound was just too new, the voice too erotic, the flanger on the drum pattern reverbs too revolutionary.

Not really, but we get the gist wink

(When I first saw it, I went to do the smartarse thing and post "More importantly, what is the 1st song that you heard for the 2nd time?", but, much as it would be an inane question, strictly speaking it's a legitimate one, so I guess it all sort of works...)

I think the simple version of the question though (assuming it was meant to be Prince-specific), is just, "What's the first Prince song you heard?"

Unless of course the OP meant something else and we all misunderstood wink
