Best post Lovesexy album?

Most non Prince fans and critics would say that Lovesexy was the last truly great Prince album. So as Prince fans what do you think was the best album the little guy has given us since Lovesexy.

IMHO The Gold Experience.

Your Choice?

Apart from the annoying segues it's a great album with some cracking tracks - Gold, Dolphin, Billy Jack Bitch, Endorphinmachine.

The only album that I'd say rivals it as the best post Lovesexy album is the Batman OST. A very underrated album IMHO that suffers from being the first P album since Controversy that didn't have a killer stand out tune like a 1999, Corvette, Doves, Alphabet, Beret, Moutains, Girlfriend etc, etc.

But taken as a whole Batman is a tremendous album but Gold is better.

As for the third best album since Lovesexy...hmm then I'm struggling, he's delivered an incredible amount of crud since 88 if truth be told.sad

I was happy with the WB years even post Lovesexy.

GE is good but so is the Exodus.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I cannot say 'The Gold Experience' without commenting what an exciting time that was to be a fan; all the touring, the leaks. It's ultimately what made me pick TGE over 'Come' or 'N.E.W.S.', which both rocked my world, but in slightly different ways.

But also I have to say that even though indeed TGE comes out on top because it's one of his more firm releases since 'Lovesexy', it's also one of the most infuriating records cuz he botched it, partly, for putting drivle like 'We March' on there instead of the original Days of Wild.

I know part of the reason of the many changes WAS his fight with WB at the time, but still, taking off 'Days Of Wild', then splitting the project into multiple releases ('Come') while watering down both of them... sad

I dismiss 'Come' soley on the fact that he put that horrible R&B version of the title song on there; it made me cringe from the first moment I played it.

there's a few IMHO..... The 'Symbol' album (san's the extra rapper is still ok to my ears, maybe a little dated) but yeah Gold Experience is up there...so is The Rainbow Children, 3121, Lotus Flower...

BUT my absolute favourite album since Lovesexy for me is The Truth..I love that CD!! Its a shame the original release plan was dropped and he had to add it to the mess that was the Crystal Ball....

There's a lot of gems on all the albums since...but as a whole 'album' The Truth/TRC/LF and 3121...probably in that order...Graffiti Bridge is pretty strong too...shame about the movie

The Love Symbol Album or Come. I'll probably give it to Come, as I consider that to be my personal favorite from the 90s era.

For me after Lovesexy he has released four flawless masterpieces:

1. The Truth

2. One Nite Alone (studio)

3. The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale

4. N.E.W.S.

and three flawed masterpieces:

Batman

Grafitti Bridge

The Rainbow Children

Exactly, plus many albums are better than that one: Diamonds & Pearls, Love Symbol, The Gold Experience, Musicology, 3121, LotusFlow3r...

Yeah, TGE is probably the most solid and commercial. Not sure it's necessarily my favourite though.

Imagine TGE with the promo backing of D&P and without all the name change/slave nonsense.

Very difficult to say. Lots of conventional fast food music after Lovesexy. Maybe TGE and TRC...

er

Prince never stopped writing great songs (Papa, The Holy River to name just 2), but I do feel that with Lovesexy he had said all he had to say about love & God & sex etc. After that it has been more of the same but he can still shine and he has still given us a lot of good music. You just have to look for it a little harder between all the predictable dull music. Which is which, I'll leave that up 2 U!
My choice:
Emancipation
Musicology

The Gold Experience or Musicology, depending on my mood.

Those 2 stand out to me as his most consistent and satisfying since Lovesexy, albeit for entirely different reasons!

There's been plenty of good albums after Lovesexy but my personal favourite would probably be Love Symbol.

ugh yeah, "come" should have started either with that very early version (sticks n stones will....) or

the electronic one. not with that 10 minute cringe fest (the horns are amazing tho).

come electro version at the opening, what's my name somewhere in the middle and then round off

the album with strays of the world at the end.

come is a very good album, marred by horrible book ends (long rnb come and orgasm).

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Kind of a tough choice between Love Symbol and The Gold Experience.

Love Symbol for its huge variety of styles (rap, funk, reggae, R&B, house, progressive rock, pop, rock, jazz), but TGE has better overall songs

I would have to go with the almighty Gold Experience!!

LotusFlower is also a very honorable mention for me and captures the brilliance of Prince in my opinion that was slightly lacking on the three previous albums.

Gold, Lotus, Rainbow Children

all flawed in their own ways, but those are the 3 best overall albums he's put out since the '80s heyday.

Yes the Rainbow Children, I love that album. I did not mention it because I do not care for it quite to the same degree as those other three that I mentioned, including those other two.

Come is outstanding to me. I think of all of his post Lovesexy albums is this one. Actually sounds better now than when it first came out. Actually I put it on and was blown away how good it sounded. It is a solid album with very few misteps. Not overproduced, just a good clean album

Lovesexy was the last great one for me. Don't get me wrong, I think he's written some great stuff since then, some great songs, I've just not been impressed with any of his albums. Too many dud tunes on all of em, just to make up an album. Just my opinion. If I was squeezed, I'd probably say TRC. Mmmm.... confuse Always a nightmare with these kind of things. I only like one tune from The Gold Experience so it wouldn't be that anyway.

He has continued in and ON after the 80's....LOVESEXY Is ranked like at number one for me though!

smile

N.E.W.S.

One Nite Alone...Piano

Xpectation

The Rainbow Children

Lotusflow3r

The Truth

AND THE Gold Experience Of Course!..However I don't think it is ALLLLL THAT...Poeople make it seem as if it's just PERFECT...AND IT IS...But I like SilverChild will rank COME above it by a little, due to its raw and dark feel.

BUT I LOVE GOLD!

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

frankly, I don't think Lovesexy is that great. he's got several albums after it that I enjoy much more, actually. ie, probably at least 50% of them.

I think Gold is his most commercial album post Lovesexy but I wouldn't say it's his best. My pick would be either Come or Musicology.

Seriously? lol This is like saying "SOTT is not a great album because Dream Factory would've been better."
