For the record though, even though the crowd knew PRINCE, about 1% knew either song, Sweet Thing or Notthin Compares 2U, which is sad, i mean i felt kinda bad when Mary was holding that mic out saying sing with me, yeah no one was, the voices were all coming from the band, sad, sad, sad.

However Prince sounds better than ever, Mary sounds ok, never been crazy for her but i respect her for doing some good music at times.

And for the record this festival sucked major major ass this year, much better last time, but almost everyone with the exception of Jovi, Prince and a few others were on point, the others need to get some LIVE chops down before ever getting on stage again

Sorry guys but I'm totally digging this new look and vibe. It reminds me of the younger P when no one knew what was coming next. Totally out of left field.

Ouch! Mary J. still can't stay on key or follow a melody... or sing a harmony.
I like Prince's look. Way better than the photo of him wearing those glasses. And the fro has grown on me. He - of course - performed great.

As usual.

Live - even if he is not on - he is ON. Unless he has someone else singing for him wink

yeah i never thought mary could sing good .. she nailed it on the verses but on the chorus she was her usual can't sing more than one note fail ... i would say she butchered the chorus .. the song built up so good and then what a harmonic let down ... prince on the other hand sounded great .. i didn't catch the first song but nc2u prince was sounding really good .. great singing .. thru in some crazy cool shit in his guitar solo .. i like the outfit .. the shades ... that it makes prince feel like the rock star he should be .. i think it feeds his cocky and fiery attitude ... and thats why he stepped out of the boring noodling guitar solo and amped it up with some wicked metal runs .. even tho mary kinda ruined the chorus .. it was great so see prince with a higher caliber musician on stage with him .. seemed more appropriate and i wish he would asemble a top of the line band with other musicians closer to his level ... i think its fair to say that prince delivered on his end of this song hands down .. rock n roll affair however ... is no where near this quality of songwriting .. so i still have mixed anticipation as far as any good new music is concerned .. if his new music had the fire prince displayed in this performance i might look forward to a new cd .. all in all this performance will likely be a positive motivator to get people to the shows .. good to see prince all freaky .. i'd like it more if he weren't wearing his freaky designs on pj's .. i think he could try a little harder there .. as in .. freaky good .. pj's .. bad

AWESOME! I love it he just pops up unannounced. A few observations.... Now we know the exchange he made with Clear Channel to get RnR Affair all that play on all their stations last week. He's a lot smarter and savvier than alot of you think I'm so friggin tired of all you complainers! The man is still alive, still performing and making new music. We are all so blessed to still have him around and giving the joy of music to the world. STFU already about his pants, his hair, his funky sunglasses...we don't care...it's all about being there!! Anyone remember this mantra...I think P has lived up to his end of this but so many of his fans...I'm just so glad I'm not some of you! So negative and simply miserable people. Finally, I love his look and it is very futuristic. However, I don't think this from a new CD per his comments last week and also didn't he wear these shirts around the time of LotusFlower too? I hope I'm wrong but lovin his cool new futuristic look. Oh and that guitar matching his shirt - hell yes!!! Ok...now on to actually watching the performances!!! [Edited 9/23/12 9:16am]

YES! nod

I like how you mentioned the BOLDED LINE.

I guess some people, don't want Prince to practice what he has been singing about since 1980! "Our clothes, our hair, we don't care..It's all about being there!" Should not we all agree that it does not matter? You have every right to assume how he looks. You may think he looks foolish, and crazy...but it does not matter to him. I guess that 'Message' is not being held up by some of you, that does not change his right to wear what he wises. He is still bringing music, and Prince lived up to his, but I guess some of us, has become conservative, and pay too much attention to what he has on. Clothes should merely speak to the freedom that is given to us..Why so serious is my question?

I love the futuristic look as well! He is looking outside of time and space! smile YES! It's Prince, so what he does should not be so surprising!

We love him because he works what is for him! He does his own thing...can't he do that?

He did it SO well!

I totally agree with both of you. Who cares what's on the outside? It's about the music.....plus....I'm tired of hearing about how good he's singing and performing for his age. Everyone here thinks bring over fifty is old. Come on people! JEEZE!

Most of the people in that audience probably weren't even born when Sinead O'Connor released her version of "Nothing Compares 2 U," let alone when the original was released. Let's hope a few of them Googled it when they got home.

I recall the ACT I tour at radio city in NYC sitting with Mary, Whitney, Bobby, Russell who my sister work for at DefJam back then etc. After the show, i recall being the the Rhiga Royal hotel at a perty with said pople and mister nelson. Everyone seemed friendly to me then.. I also will wager a huge bet with you Bart that sittin in Prince's vault there are indeed recording withn Mary. More specifically, there is a version of Mavis's God is Alive which she did with P at PP

I didnt say they were exactly the same. But the inspiration is the same = futurustic glasses and that's what's on trend. Prince didn't create those eyeglasses he had on, since he's not a fashion designer. I'm thinking it might be some type of special design for him, it reminds me of the Dior for men collection 09 but also (Linda Farrow eyeglass designer). I might find out who made them a bit later... from this year's runway shows.

You're right, most of us 90s kid weren't born when it was a hit but anyone who was born in the 90s had to hear it on either MTV, the radio or with their parents unless they didn't have a tv or a radio. It was a huge hit in the US & Europe. I've been hearing that song since I was a kid and I LOVE it and alot of more people would appreciate Prince, if he only wasn't so strict about the internet. I have so many friends my age and younger, whom I've tried to make listen to Prince but they can't find nothing online and they're 2 lazy to download his stuff lol.

Agree - Prince showed again, that not only can he play guitar and write songs, he is also an amazing singer (that's what I'm appreciating nowadays).
At the chorus, Prince was doing a harmony and Mary couldn't sing along - it totally threw her off and she was off. Mercifully, Prince had the audience sing the chorus so that Mary would stop singing it. I think he knew. It must have hurt his head.
