3 chains o gold is a masterpiece.

A sprawling soundscape that is worthy of comparison with Band on the run and bohemian rhapsody. (not saying it's as good)

If you haven't heard it for a long time. Break it out and revisit it. At the time it was released Prince had come through a prolonged era of incredible artistic experimenation not really seen again until The Rainbow Children. I think it was lost at the time when heard in that context.

If he had released it now and we heard it in the context of the releases of the last decade. I think it would blow everyones mind.

Put your phones on and play it now. What do u think?

Hmm, not sure, it's good but I prefer "7" or "Sexy M.F." from that record.

It was definitely my most played song from that record, the changes in tempo and style throughout the song kept it interesting to me for a long time. Haven't heard it for a while though, will revisit today.

Love it. Always have.

Thanks for the reminder - played it again today for the first time in ages.

I would indeed be absolutely blown away to hear another release from Prince of this type. That said, I've no doubt he's got it in him - there are also probably some already in the Vault.

It's relative dude. Some people will tell you tell Like it, Some of them will tell you they don't.

When you tell me the word "Masterpiece" I Automatically think about the Long version of computer Blue. Now that's a Masterpiece!

I like the song, And I thought It was Like "Prince's Purple Bohemian Rhapsody" So yeah, I can see what you're talking about, but I dont hear it that often, I prefer The Max, 7, and Sexy M.F A little bit more biggrin But its a great song

I recently revisted the symbol album - played 7, and God created, and 3 Chains... in succession with the headphones on and

Wow! I had forgotten how much I love that album and era. Always said the symbol album was too hit packed for its own good. Lots of great stuff on there got looked over.

Thanks for reminding us.

It sounds like an entire broadway rock opera condensed into a 6 minute trailer.

it's an interesting song.It should have been the final song on the 'Love Symbol' album, instead of "Sacrifice Of Victor".

It's not a masterpiece... It's derivative and certainly not comparable to Bohemian Rhapsody or Band On The Run! It demonstrates impressive musicianship, but that's not the same as strong songwriting. Just my two-cents. There are other Prince songs which are masterpieces, though!

yep, it's awesome, it's because of songs like this one that Love Symbol was his best album since SOTT !

"Strays of the World" was even better...

As a song it encompasses everything about Queen mind you. The heavy rock guitar, vocal layering and operatics, the sheer pomp. Never really knowing whether the whole thing is just fantasy or whether it is in fact real life. Everybody knows it, everybody knows you should head bang half way through, everybody knows Garth didn't know the final words, everybody knows some or all of the lyrics and everybody can air guitar the solo.

Queen, bigger than Prince? Easily.

Always thought that 3 chains o gold was Prince trying to make a bohemian rhapsody part 2 , never liked it. It doesn't have that prince feeling to it. So I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

"Nothing Should Come Between You and I."

I really wish he'd fix the grammar there. It irks me.

I like 3 Chains of Gold. I understand the hate for this song. It's obviously his take on Bohemian Rhapsody, done Prince style, and had the symbol album had stronger concept execution, it would have worked better.

The orchestral moments in the song are gorgeous.
