If Prince released a recording of his farts and burps most of you here would still deem it a masterpiece.

If this wasn't sung by Prince I wonder how many of you would care to give it a second listen.

It doesn't matter what it sounds like, is it Prince? Then it's soooooooooooo good...

I dont think anyone here said it was a masterpiece. And what a surprise...people here tend to favor Prince over other artists!??! lol

I was driving home from with the radio on, which is rare for me, and I hear a clip of prince, which gets my attention, then another and another. The announcer is talking about Prince and then says "and he's back and here is the world premier of his new song" which proceeds to play. Them another prince promo after its over telling you again who it was and asking people to go to their Facebook page to let them know how you like it. I have never heard this station do anything like this.

I can't remember the last time I heard a new prince song on the radio before I already knew about it. At first listen the song was great. Maybe he has finally figured out how to promote a hit again. We'll have to see how well he follows through to a promising start.

Plz stop with the comparisons. I mean he did write the other classics. But this song is on its own. Let it dive in2 its own zone...

No one is really saying it doesn't take off on its own, but there is no denying from the beginning of the song it has a similar sound to 'Take Me With You'. Nothing wrong with that. For the most part, the song is getting more 'yays' than 'nays'.

not a bad effort at all. The best thing has to be the lyrics-they are actually not cringeworthy!!. Despite being a rip off Take me with u it's still got a great hook and dare i say it takes me back!. In the context of the great music out there it is of course way off pace but in the context of P and his last few CD's it's rather good. Off to listen to Muse and Jack White to remind myself how you can sound like P, be cutting edge and commercial at the same time!!.

p.s. this song is surely just to promote the tour, i don't expect a new album any time soon.

Eh......It's nice. It's a collage of previous songs he's already done. I do like the mix on this far better than the whole "20ten" album disbelief. It's airy & I like that aspect. But I will say, vocally, Prince sounds tired, strained, & burnt out imo. All that touring has definitely taken a toll on his voice [ & he has aged, of course] with this song. But hey, I guess when you're suing your fans, no iTunes $ [?], & no remasters, touring is the only way to keep generating that cash to pay for lawyers & such. shrug

الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

It's very close to "Take me with you" lacks a big hook but nice. More "hot summer" than "Beginning Endlessly" - I think we are gonna get the musicology after rainbow children... One for the masses and less for the hardcore. Still, BRING ON THE ALBUM smile

I dig the (hopefully) natural fro, and i really like the song. It takes on so many elements from P's career, and the lyrics are naturally Prince, Hopefully we see this appear on itunes and a new album. It aint the greatest, but its a good step foreward. Whats in store next, Prince? biggrin

i think the melodic keyboard line (not the one that he lifts from 'take me with u')is an ode to his golden girls wardrobe obsession .. sounds like the hook to "thank u for being a friend"

yaaas hunny!

I like the song. Its warm and breezy. Cant hate on this one...the horns against the keys layed nicely...his vocals are pretty good too.

Just like that. Would be nice to just wake up someday and have an entire new album, just like this song. Out of the blue. I like the guitar, vocals. The synth sound dated but I guess that he defined a sound so he can do whatever.

I could throw this song into my daily rotation, its not beyond awesome. It's not terrible. It's good but if he recorded an entire album I would love to hear where this one fits in and if other songs tell a story. For some reason it reminds me a little of T Rex, which is a good thing..

But Prince's next album, it would be cool if it was out of the blue. Just wake up one day to a new Prince website and a double to triple new cd to download. Imagine the buzz something like that generate. IMO when he promotes and releases all these single it makes the actual release a lil anticlimatic. Next couple weeks should be interesting with Larry and Andy releases...hmm

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

that's another thing i like about prince, how his voice sounds different all of the time.

some artists just sound pretty much the same on all their songs but he has this thing

he does where his voice sounds different almost every time. and it's not just effects,

like autotune or such, just the tone and timbre of his voice and the delivery.

and i happen to like the voice he uses on this track a whole lot nod good vocals cool

I agree with you to a point, but he does use a lot of different recording methods from time to time. On Purple Rain, a lot of the songs had that echo effect, which he sorta brought back for....I am trying to remember...maybe Last December from TRC, and 4ever from LF

It's ok.

But it's once again by the numbers. Yes, it proves he can make em like he used to, but i really don't want him to be repeating old ideas and clinging on to this pop thing.

It's a catchy, simple song that does it's job and it's great he omits a chorus and yet makes it remain accessible to a pop audience. The musical fills are good and it has good production, but i'd like Prince to leave that 80's sound alone and get back to a whole new thing. Something musically challenging.

Still, at 54, he still proves he's timeless and unmatched.

I dunno how I feel about this song. It's not bad. Really if it were on Purple Rain instead of Take Me With U (and the production were the same as the rest of PR), I don't think it would hurt the album much. Take Me With U is probably stronger, but the fact that I think they're comparable means that RnR Affair is doing SOMETHING right. If some of you guys think I'm praising the song too much by saying it would fit on the "MasterPiece" album Purple Rain, keep in mind that I think PR is good but far from the top Prince albums. I'm not saying RnR Affair can stand up with the BEST of Prince (oh lord no).

But anyway. I have a positive reaction to the song. But on the other hand, an album full of RnR Affairs would be dreadful. I like my Prince to do something kRaZy!!1, and the closest RnR comes to crazy is that bit of drum machine at the very end. I wish he did more with that, somehow.

I really, REALLY hope that the new video isn't for this song. The pictures from the video shoot looked like a return to some awesome peach n black stuff, and RnR is very far from that.

Excellent observation. I felt the same, along with a "newness"... reminescent, but fresh at the same time.

I like it alot. Does it compare to his classics? Of course not. But that doesn't mean it isn't a nice little laid back pop song. And as others have noticed the production and melody here are far stronger than recent efforts. Compare this to Cause And Effect or Hot Summer, for example.
