Not just Prince Music History but Music History period! Purple Rain became the benchmark of most musical movies starring some of the hottest musical stars afterwards.

I knew Prince before the Purple Reign via the movie soundtrack etc

And experiencing the change was just life changing

Going to see this movie was like going to see Star Wars for the first time

I can watch this movie over and over, and there is so much happening so fast so much background stuff to see, I just don't see the 'mess ups' that people mention, the movie moves so fast

Love it. The performance of The Beautiful Ones alone is worth all the fuss.

TBH, I think it describes the era of the 80s ... as in the battle of the bands in many cities and movies(back to the future had a scene for a battle of the bands type deal in the high school portrayed in the movie) and we used to have crowds over in our home( we lived in th e country) i remember i helped my step dad rig up the speakers of the stereo to the VCR...to have surround sound back then.. and when MORE ppl arrived it got rewound to the beginning again... cant tell u ho w sick i was of the beginning in a sence of "HEY i wanna watch it all the way through this time darn it... STOP REWINDING THE DARN THING" i just got to where when they rewind it to the beginning id go upstairs to my room and listen to when it got to a certain point to where i wanted id come down again ROFL .....sighs.... memories of the good old days smile

Smurf theme song-seriously how many fucking "La Las" can u fit into a dam song wall

I was into Prince since the old "I Wanna Be Your Lover" days also so seeing this movie for the first time was really a thrill to me too. Not only did Prince rarely give interviews back in those days, but you rarely saw him on TV and you basically almost NEVER heard his speaking voice. As John Cougar Mellencamp said at the premiere party, it was great just to hear him speak for the first time other than just a sentence every blue moon.

I agree. Those performances are my favorite parts, but I love the movie in general. It was when I got addicted to Prince, I connect lots of emotions with seeing it and I'll always remember what it did to me when I first saw it. No other movie has ever had such an emotional effect on me.

Purple Rain....Well Let me start by saying this 1 movie changed how I my cool was back then.

I also want 2 say without a doubt this is my Favorite movie of all time....yall Don't hear me!!

Purple Rain is my Favorite movie of all times, beating out Malcolm X, Training Day, 2pac Ressurection,JFK, Star Wars all 6 of em. I remember my mom taking me and my friends opening weekend. I had heard of Prince being in a movie. I read it in JET and it was stated Rock Star Prince will star in a new movie costing 7.2 million. I thought 4 some reason it was going 2 be a PORN just off image and the women Lol . I was about 13 or 14 and as I stated I kept hearing When Doves Cry on the radio...back when music was pop'n. Over and Over I heard this song, then they kept talking about this movie called Purple Rain. I saw the trailer on it and I had 2 go. I was on some Victory Tour Michael Jackson tip but I had 2 see Purple Rain. I bugged my mom 4 a hot min that Fri Sat.

From the intro of Let's Go Crazy to the end with Baby I'm a Star. I was blown away by this movie.

From seeing Morris Day get fresh 4 the night 2 fine ass Apollonia, hell every woman in that movie was kind of sexxxy, even the Aretha Franklin look'n chick doing The Bird LOL.

My Purple Rain ppl u all don't hear me when I said I was obsessed with this flick!!!

When Apps jump in that lake my eyes damn near jump out of my head. I was drool'n damn near.

The story line was excellent 4 all of them being newcomers except William Blinn he help write Roots, Clarence Williams III, all were newcomers from director to producers to actors. The Marketing team was on point just pump'n this movie up so hard. Marketing was really marketing back then on a movie. Purple Rain stayed in Theaters until damn near the end of Oct 84. Movies now are on DVD 5 weeks after theatrical release. Another reason I loved this movie besides the battle of the bands tale and the message of redemption, was the comical skills of Morris E. Day and Jerome Benton pure C.O.O.L and the scene when Jerome put baby girl in the dumpster off the hook and can't 4get What's the Password!!! Lol

The music in the movie was just so good all the songs period even Modernaire Lol. I can't say enough about this movie and how it changed me in some ways. I started liking Jimi Hendrix and others greats becuz of Prince being compared 2 these Rock Stars. The Time my favorite group period even over N.W.A and RUN-D.M.C . Prince and company knew what they wanted with Purple Rain and from the Purple notebook he was taking notes with 2 the final wrap with Albert Magnoli on the movie and behind the scenes it became clear a classic movie was about 2 cum 2 life. PS no BS I have seen Purple Rain I am sure waaaaayyyy over 200 times since it's release in July 27,1984. Purple Rain4Life!!
