I'm Glad I found Prince

How Do I say this Without sounding Obsessed or Corny?

I found Prince by accident A year ago. Of course I knew who he was And I've had heard 1999 before But I wasn't into his music that much. I was bored and I started Browsing the Internet. I found When doves cry And Purple rain, Which Led to buying The Gold Experience, Which led to watching Purple rain, Which led to having a LoveSign Necklace and So on...

I've found So many Sides Of Prince That I really Enjoy. I like His Bitchy Side, His Spiritual Side, His Sexual Explicit Side And His creepy side, Which I found two days ago while hearing some of his songs Backwards eek I haven't Slept since then, But I Love my Freaky Prince. I'm Kinda Atheist But I really Love His Religious Side and his songs that talks about God and stuff Like that, Even tho I don't have the same Beliefs, But I've learn a lot From Him, Musically, Spiritually, Artistically.

I Don't agree with him In some stuff, I dont Like Purple And Gold, It was really hard for me to Understand all the Name Changing, And I was really confused while Watching GB, But Prince it's a True Genius and I think that so many people Haven't realized of it yet.

I Don't How I would Be Right like Now If I had never Met Prince... What do you think About It? How Would be your Life If you Had never met Prince? What Were your thoughts When Your First started listening To prince... (Mine was "No! He Did it With His Sister? No way!" btw lol ) Do you think that Listening to Prince Made you become More Open minded, Dirty Minded? He changed your tastes In music?

Thank you! Yeah I know What you Mean with This. When I first Started Listening to Prince, I Putted his Music loud And I discovered My mother Is a Huge fan Of him since the 80's. We are From Venezuela And Here to Find His Music, And Original Cd's and Lp's Is not a piece of cake but I try my best!

And Yeah He's One Of the Greatest Guitar Players I've Ever seen On action, He's Multitalented. I just graduated From Highschool like a Month Ago, But When I was Studying People Used to make fun of me, Even My friends xD Saying stuff Like "That Man Looks Weird" "He's Voice is too High" "He's creepy" And then I just Started Playing Purple Rain Or Dreamer on my phone and Shut Their Mouths Up, Cuz he's that good!

yeah I should stick to the prince side. i might be more popular. I have been a prince fan for a long time. I saw what had to be a re-run of prince on American Bandstand--I think it was spring of 1981. I thoght "my parents would hate him... " So I got one of 2 songs he did on that as a 45 with I think Baby on the back.

Then at some point soon after that I got controversy LP. I liked it because it said SEX on it. I think my brother showed it to my mom. She did not approve. I think it was 'Jack u off' that blew her mind--ironically i had no idea what that was until after she threw a fit.

Years later I got a 1999 45 as a reward at a game at a fair I am not sure I ever played it but I have it someplace.

In 1985 I had a dub copy of Purple Rain and some of 1999 it was really my brothers but I swiped it. But I was not really hooked until early 1986. By that time I was older (17) and was able to buy the tapes and no one would question their content. I got ATWIAD for Temptation. Then a legit copy of PR followed by: Dirty Mind then Controversy and a bootleg of 1999 from Mexico $5--it was poor quality and did not last long.

By the time Parade came out I had the other 2 tapes. And had in fact worn out diry mind and controversy so i had them both on one tape. But I think I did not get a ledgit copy if 1999 until about the time SOTT came out.

In the summer of 1988 I got a CD player and started to replace the 10 albums on CD--I was in Army AIT (the job school after boot camp). I got most of them by doing a CD club. I got made fun of when the package came and it was like 7 or 8 cds ALL Prince! But another guy had my back and he even told me about the Prince songs I had never heard...(Gotta Stop Messing about, Horny Toad, and Another Lonely Christmas: how I missed them I have NO IDEA!).

I am so glad WB dropped that weird packaging idea used for ATWIAD (and I think a few other high profile artists...I think Motly Crew's Theater of Pain was also released the same way)

I've enjoyed my Purple journey since I was 14. I may not agree with everything Prince does or say, but it has nothing to do with me personally. I just care about the music and its continues to be a wonderful experience.

i started listening to prince when i was 11, so about 5 years ago. his music made me really feel all different kinds of emotions that no other artist had ever done before. So many songs have made me cry, made me laugh, and even made me happy for the whole day. i understand what ur saying about all of his different sides. there are times that he's made me go WHOA, WHAT DID U JUST SAY? but then i laugh cuz i know he's either kidding or he just got really emotional.......or he's just a little crazy.... the side that i think has effected me the most is his spiritual side. i have been a christian all my life but he has made me so much closer to God. just by listening to some of his songs have somehow connected me with God. so i am really appreciative to him for that, and i hope that i can meet his some day so i can tell him. So yes i am very glad i found prince. I'm 16 and he is really the only one i even listen to anymore.

Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain
And I'm high, so high

You're 16! So we have the same Age ♥ Yeah I know What you mean...

At first when I started Discovering His Music, And Listening some songs for the First Time, I Laughed so Much because all the different things that He said, Like the "Im your Willy wonka, golden ticket is yours..." for example, When I first heard The beautiful ones, I pushed replay so many times just to hear him say the "Do U Want me?" part... Oh dude, you Just lost Ur mind over that girl...

When I heard extraloveable for the first time a Was serving dinner to my family with my headphones, and all of the sudden I said: "No, Did Prince just Threatened to Rape Me? No honey, there's no need to drag me, I will go to the tub myself wink ..."

Oh, and by the way... Parents Get really concerned when they watch you Singing "Viiiiibrator, Makes me feel so good..." All over the house lol I learned that by experience.

wow! nice to see the youngsters in here...

I started listening to P back when I was 14 too,,but that was back in 1984...It's been a helluva ride....especially the first 16 years or so...as I would anticipate each album and buy it the first day it came out....I imagine it is a totally different experience nowadays...being young and going thru his back catalogue...glad to see he is touching the younger folk. Wave your wild signs high!headbang

o_O I didn't know there were still Prince fans out there around the same age as me... I got into Prince when I was 13, almost exactly 4 years ago. I saw commercials for LotusFlow3r and got curious, so I looked up his songs and found When Doves Cry... Then the floodgates broke when I heard stuff like God Created Women, My Name Is Prince, Computer Blue, In This Bed I Scream, and (my favorite Prince song ever, which was released on my birthday of all days...) Pop Life. Man, I remember being a freshman driving my friends crazy quoting that song! Unfortunately the only new Prince album to come out while I was a fan was 20Ten... But that came out on my birthday so that was kinda neat! Prince has definitely become my one stop shop for good music, I mean the man does it all. He has music for every mood, every genre, and I've grown considerably more open minded from listening to him. I mean for god sake, he's introduced me to Joni Mitchell, Sly and The Family Stone, and PFunk... Although, being a younger Prince fan is kinda rough nowadays. Everyone I know only knows him from that Chapelle Show sketch, which while I enjoyed it, didn't really make him come across as a genius. So when people hear I'm a Prince fan in school, I usually get hassled by them over his falsetto, his clothes, or people just flat out call him (and anyone who likes him) a homosexual... *sigh* I guess thats New Jersey for you... I usually reply, yeah but his middle finger can outperform you and everyone you know in any instrument at anytime in the day. Nowadays when people ask what music I like, I just save myself from the hassle and say I listen to the New Power Generation and that my favorite movie is Sign O The Times. That way, I'm not lying to them and if they're a Prince fan they'll pick up on the cues.

Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.

Yeah I feel You. In my highschool people used to make fun Of him saying that he is Weird, Creepy and Gay mad I played "Dreamer" With my cell phone so they Shut up while hearing the guitar solo lol That happened a lot... And obviously, If he was "Weird" I was Automatically Weird too Because I'm his fan ¬¬'

The good Thing is that I graduated from highschool a month ago so I don't have to deal with stupid arguments anymore razz

I know that hes A genius, And to me It's sad that some people don't get it and I can't explain it to them or show them how great he is, But you know... Thats how life is.

This is a great thread!
Been a fan since I was 9 in 1984, loved the album Purple Rain, forgot about Prince afterwards and rediscovered him in 1989 with Batman. Been a fan ever since, his music means a lot to me and has played a big part in my life. Great to have him around us!

Sounds like you concentrated Prince the same way I concentrated Breaking Bad into all 4 past seasons in 4 weeks.

Prince is a MAJOR role model for me on patterns of creativity, and the inspiration and example has proven to be priceless in opening my mind to my abilities which of course support my creative career.

Being a Prince fan is one of the most rewarding and frustrating experiences you'll ever stumble upon in your life.

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and love him for awhile. To do that, I suggest you leave the org for 5 years and don't come back until you're a jaded prick that types in pithy sarcasm.

Otherwise, we're just bound to ruin it for you.

Well, my 80+ mom just became a believer. She was visiting and asked who the picture of the guy was on my computer. So I played her some music, and she asked me to make her a CD. Then she asked if I could make her a "cover" for the CD box, and I let her pick her picture. She was torn between a piano-playing shot from LoveSexy period or him sitting on a chair playing a guitar--and finally chose the guitar shot.

And Yeah, When I started to Like Prince, 20ten Was In the stores already, So I had to go back to the 70s And Listen to everything In chronological order... Well Kinda, I was still in the "Dirty Mind" album when I found The Gold Experience, So that Broke up the Order neutral however It was a great thing to experience his evolution Artistically and Physically...

That's unusual that you are a Prince fan who doesn't like the 1999 album. I've never heard of that before. But whatever works for you is cool and like you say, Prince has many sides and styles and many of them are just incredibly entertaining and inspiring, etc.

Lol well welcome to the Prince community smile Good to see more youngins finding, loving, and eventually living his music smile

Yes, he has brought me out of my shell a lot since dicovering him 4 years ago (when I was 15). Definitley more dirty minded, sex driven, experiemntal, daring, & adventurous. Just live & love this life you're given and do what you wanna do

Edit: && yup, he has made me more instrumental-drawn towards music and adore slick, clever lyrics instead of cliche', resused ones you hear thru mainstream. Gotta be good music for ecstasy to hear it!!

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Changed my tastes in music? The man singlehandedly reinvented my taste in music! Ok, thats a bit of a stretch, I've always liked music that had a strong groove to it so I naturally liked funkier music. But after listening to Prince I got into a whole new world of music. George Clinton, Sly Stone, Little Richard, Joni Mitchell, Larry Graham, The Time (and the rest of Prince's associated artists) Santana, and Hendrix are just a couple of the sounds he's turned me to through listening to interviews and reading about his influences and peers. He even got me to pick up my guitar again (something I stopped using in middleschool when I was really depressed about how bad I was when compared to others). Now I'm a lot more musically tuned then I used to be. As for open minded, yeah I'm a lot more open minded than I used to be, and to my friends I'm a little TOO open minded. I'm a teenager so I'm obviously dirty minded but I'm a lot more subtle about it now. The biggest thing I got outta Prince is writing. I've litterally just looked at his vocals and written them down all over my notebooks in school which set the groundwork for how I write poetry and sketches for my schools Live TV Show. I write using a similar sense of humor that's displayed in some moments of Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon. And my poetry carries similar wordplay to those found in The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker and Joy In Repetition.

Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.

i started listening to prince when i was 11, so about 5 years ago. his music made me really feel all different kinds of emotions that no other artist had ever done before.

I'm also 16 lol

So evil girl, if one of us has a date,
With the undertaker, which one will it be?

That's unusual that you are a Prince fan who doesn't like the 1999 album. I've never heard of that before. But whatever works for you is cool and like you say, Prince has many sides and styles and many of them are just incredibly entertaining and inspiring, etc.

I never said I don't Like the 1999 Album, actually one of my favorites Lol. I'm just saying that when I was like 10 years Old, I saw the video of 1999 And I really Didn't give a crap about it... Well It made me feel a little disturbed and even though I didn't like the video at first I wanted to Know who he was And That's what brought me here nowadays...

Yeah I don't think That a fan ever gets tired of him, Everytime you listen to one of his songs, Even tho You already heard it a thousand of times, you still discover something new, You get a new feeling or something...
