The FreakerFantastic, I think that your thread would have been better received if your emphasis had been on you just now realizing the meaning of the song as opposed to asserting that most of us hadn't realized the meaning of the song. As a Prince fan for the past thirty-two years, I don't know anyone who calls oneself a Prince fan who didn't know the meaning of the song. But, I do also realize that increasingly younger people are becoming fans every day, and there I things that I take for granted that may not be that obvious to newer or younger fans. So, maybe some folk were a bit over the top in their joking, but I think the notion that it seemed like you were shedding new light on this topic was easily seen by us older folk as naive and a bit presumptuous. As shown by a couple of posters, the topic has been discussed several times before, but I don't think that most of us begrudge your excitement for the discovery nor do we begrudge that you think it is a great song with a great message, but, as one of the older people, we can be "put-off" by the notion that most of us did not realize this, when clearly, most of us had. So, don't let this experience keep you from sharing your joy and excitement for discovering new things about Prince; just be mindful that there are a lot of us, myself included, who have heard so many of these topics so many times that we can't believe that it's new to anyone. To be honest, I still raise an eyebrow or two when someone says that The Gold Experience was their first Prince experience. Whenever anyone says that anything after 1993 is their first Prince experience, I realize just how old I am, and I think, "Damn, it does not seem that long ago when I thought that the New Breed was going to revolutionize the world." And, I'm sure that some older person was rolling his eyes at me, thinking Prince ain't nuthin' but a poor imitation of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, etc... Hey, it is refreshing to experience your excitement for Prince 'cause Lord knows there are some angry and mean ass people on this cite. But, as cynical, mean-spirited, and bitter as some of them can be, you will find that this site is filled with a lot of knowledgeable Prince fans, and you just need to learn to treat them like that bitter college professor. Get the knowledge from them, and then back slowly away from them when their bitterness begins to ooze behind the knowledge.

But wait a minute - is she in his hair or in a boat? Because he says both in the lyrics.

Maybe she's in his hair while he's in a boat? That way, she could be in his hair and the boat at the same time. hmmm

It's the legacy left to us all by stupid people of every age, but specifically folks who are so stupid that they couldn't READ a song title, (without even needing to HEAR the song) and instantly realize it's a play on words. A pretty obvious and not at all subtle play on words, too. Stupidity is ageless. People like you had to stand on the shoulders of stupid giants of the past to got us to this point. Don't give all the credit to old dumb people. Don't sell yourself short.

I'll bet your dumb-ass believes Michael Jackon, James Brown and Prince all shared a stage together at some point in history, too.

Wait! 20 years later and I figured out that Steakfinger was being sarcastic! He's a genius!

Imo your bullying shows the sad state of your soul. Especially when you guys try to disguise your negative, presumptious and demeaning attitudes as 'a joke'.

FreakerFantastic obviously has not spend his whole life analyzing every song, instrument or lyric that Prince every produced. Maybe he actually has a life?!

News of the day:

There are orgers who don't attribute any status to knowledge about every little Prince fact there is to know. There are orgers that have a broader perspective on life than that.

Not being as obsessed and close minded as some fans on this board, does not mean he is stupid. It merely means that Prince still has fans that are capable of enthusiasm about little things they discover in his songs.

It's probably been discussed before, but Pussy Control is really about how removing the locking bolt from a GMC posi-track rear differential and disconnecting the thrust shaft from the spider gears will, in fact, make the axles stationary. So really, you have no control at all. Prince, he so crazy.

I am old, honey - and I wouldn't go back if I could. In fact, the way things are headed, I wish I'd been born 10-15 years earlier.

The world your generation will inherit is going to be pure shit. Fortunately, you aren't smart enough to know the difference, so the personal impact will be minimal. Just take some Anna Stesia and kiss your ass good-bye. wave

I agree with this. Most of the time I take the literal sense of the words in songs and I don't over-analyze them(again, save for a few). I thought the OP was enlightening to me when I read this. Interesting lyrics moreso now.
