Superhero

Does anyone else remember this song?. I remember i got hold of it around 10 years ago, it was a really fun song, must have been a bootleg?. Haven't heard it for a long time, does anyone know where it came from?

We're here, might as well get into it.

SoulAlive

It's song that Prince wrote and produced, and gave it to Earth Wind and Fire.It appears on their 1993 Millenium album.

A year later, the NPG released their own version...it appeared in some movie.

There was an import single for it as well with a remixed version.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Couldn't have been that much fun or good if you can't remember it.

wink

But then again... it was the NPG, so..... :-\

Thanks guys, it kind of got lost from my memory bank because it's such an obscure track, only just thought about it today!

We're here, might as well get into it.

er

I heard it performed at my first & only aftershow at The Garage, Glasgow 1995. It was so cool, seeing as Prince was & still is my only Super Hero! Amazingly funky! cool

I like Superhero.. biggrin

I have the cd single somewhere, iirc.. with a few NPG versions on it.

I have never heard the Earth Wind & Fire version, but it should be really bad?

Why should it be really bad?

It's not, but, I do like the NPG's version better.

Actually, the best version is the outtake that morphs into a cover of Outta Space by Billy Preston. That's some fonky shit right there! headbang

^ Believe me, DjThunderFunk:

I love "September", "Boogie Wonderland", "Let's Groove" etc.

but EW&F wasn't exactly big in the mid 1990s when this song was released,

I just haven't bothered to look for the E, W & F version, if you think it's ok or even good.. then fine.. smile

ps. the music video to the NPG "Superhero"..

contains some really bad cartoons,

a really bad video... I used to have this on a bootleg VHS video tape..

oh dear it was awful... lol

The EW&F version is alright. Prince plays keys on it, iirc. That NPG outtake version with Outta Space that I mentioned is the one that does it for me though.

Great song, particularly the unreleased NPG jam that includes Outta Space.

Prince kinda got political at this time, writing many songs about being black in the USA, and racism issues (The Sacrifice Of Victor, Paris 1798430, Uncle Sam, Super Hero, Race, We March...).

I thought you were thinking of the video to MPLS, didn't know there was a video to Superhero.

Just checked it out on YT - whoever the wardrobe designer was for the Steeles should've been dragged out in the street and flogged.

Bloody AS-TO-NI-SHING!!!

I've been a fan for 22 years, digging all the obscure stuff that I could, being really HARDCORE about this y'know, and still every week or so I learn about some obscure release or promo I'd never heard about eek eek eek

I had no idea there was a video for Super Hero...

Prince's discography is really a maze, and there's no way out confused

yeahthat I don't remember this either. And, it's not like I wasn't aware of the project at the time. I have the soundtrack, the single and even the movie on DVD. This video should have been a bonus feature.

Wow. Just wow. I'm impressed by the number of videos Prince made. I mean, we're discovering official videos that almost nobody knew existed 18 years later. Amazing.

I wrote by memory, and you are right,

the "cartoon video" = MPLS. (Silly me for confusing these 2 videos)

But like you write also.... there's a video to "Superhero" as well,

rather awful - but still the music is funky. cool

So nice to see Michael B., Babarella, Morris Hayes, Mayte, The Steeles etc...

But looks very amateurish, right? lol
