No Paris Eiffel Tower Concert on July 14

It looks like Paris did not allow Prince to play under Eiffel Tower after all:

"Prince wanted to give a free charity concert under the Eiffel Tower on the 14th of July, but Paris town council has rejected his demands judging the project “incompatible with the traditional French national fireworks” says an AFP press report today. Prince’s French tour producer Jackie Lombard has received a refusal letter from Paris town council claming that “two events like Prince concert and French national day fireworks could not live together”.

Because then Prince wouldn’t get a fireworks show at the Eiffel tower as a backdrop for free.

Just found this.. sounds interesting... sounds too good to be true actually.

PRINCE plan to hold a concert under the Eiffel Tower on July 14 has been rejected because it would clash with Bastille Day celebrations."There was a request from the producer of Prince in France to organize a concert on July 14," said an aide to Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe."But our priority is the July 14 fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, which is not compatible with this project."We are ready to study another concert date, discussions are under way."Prince, who regularly comes to France, had wanted to give a free concert on the French national day in partnership with a charity, and the show would reportedly have been filmed for release in 3-D cinemas.Prince's producer in France, Jackie Lombard, confirmed she had received a rejection letter from the Paris mayor stating that "two events such as a Prince concert and a July 14 fireworks show cannot coexist".Lombard said another date in September had been proposed to the city for a concert in association with a charity that fights HIV/AIDS."In September, there are already two events scheduled on that subject, a George Michael concert and a concert for AIDS Solidarity. We could put a real spotlight on AIDS that month."The city of Paris had not yet replied to this proposal, she said.Bastille Day is held on July 14 each year in commemoration of the 1790 Fete de la Federation, a national celebratio which took place on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14,1789.

Utterly ridiculous in this day and age that they cannot have the two events, how much money would it have brought in for the French economy and the charity???
A recent concert on DVD would have been awesome!!!

Prince's request to perform under the Eiffel Tower has been rejected by the mayor of Paris.

The singer wanted to hold a free concert under the monument on Saturday, July 14 to mark France's Bastille Day celebrations, but was denied in favour of the traditional fireworks display.

An aide to mayor Bertrand Delanoe told AFP: "There was a request from the producer of Prince in France to organise a concert on July 14.

"But our priority is the July 14 fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, which is not compatible with this project. We are ready to study another concert date - discussions are under way."

Prince had intended to team up with a charity to hold the free gig, with plans to film the show for a 3D release in theatres.

Jackie Lombard, Prince's producer in France, said that they are now looking into a September date to hold the free concert in partnership with a charity that fights HIV/AIDS.

She is reportedly still waiting for a reply from Paris on their new proposal.

Last year, Prince was revealed to have been the original choice to headli...c festival but instead became the final headline act for the Hop Farm festival.

It’s Paris in July. They don’t need Prince to help them generate economic activity. Half of the rich people on Earth will be dropping by anyway.

Well… Having worked in the French music business, I wouldn’t be surprised if the French tour operator had made the request BEFORE asking Prince, planning to ask Prince to play AFTER obtaining an agreement… It’s a common practice here.

Prince NOT Planning An Eiffel Tower Concert…At All!

Despite rumors of Prince requesting to play in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France next month, it is NOT TRUE. Quite simply, no request was EVER made!

The rumors circulated that Prince was wanting to play a special concert in front of the Eiffel Tower in July and then Mayor Bertrand Delanoe denied the request.

The mayor's reps stated "There was a request from the producer of Prince in France to organise a concert in July. But our priority is the July 14 fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, which is not compatible with this project."
"We are ready to study another concert date, discussions are under way."

They stated that Prince's team was looking for a date in September to raise awareness for the fight against HIV and AIDS.

We reached out to Prince's people about this situation and received an email response;

PRINCE NEVER PROPOSED 2 PLAY THIS EVENT. NO ONE FROM R "TEAM" R HOPING 2 "HOLD" ANYTHING. THE FRENCH PRESS WOULD B BETTER SERVED FOCUSING ON THE ECONOMY.

Amazing how the French Mayor's reps made it sound like Prince and his team requested to be involved in this, yet it turned out to be false

very interesting that the link to Dr Fbs blog entry that was posted here does now no longer exist! ??

When I click on the link I get a "page not found" message. So did he have to remove his statement, I wonder?

I have only read about this now, so maybe there is news about this somewhere that I have not seen yet.

The original release sounded like pure propaganda/disinformation from the start. Now, people are blaming P? Anyone can release a statement about any celebrity to the press and some sheeple seem willing to believe anything just because it comes through a multi-national media corporation; how naive.
