Will there ever be another 'NPG' album?

Goldnigga and Exodus are really pretty good albums in my book. The tone is vastly different from Goldnigga to Exodus, mainly due to the departure of Tony M as front man, but there are some similaries, for example the skits. If there were a new NPG album with the current (and truly awesome) lineup, who do you think would assume the frontperson roleand what kind of musical form would it take?

Ida's a very stong frontperson and vocalist on her solo stuff, and there would probably be a lot more asskicking female energy on the record, as the only males left in the band are Mr Hayes and John Blackwell (and Prince but there's only a half point for him).

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'd've liked a couple more, the revolving door/faceless Vegas-y backing band feeling comes and goes, but there have been some strong line ups since 1998, even if the number of discernable characters hasn't been quite as high. Not necessarily the band's fault of course, they're great players. I enjoy them most when such projects have a theme or central core character - Exodus and Goldnigga had this, in varying degrees of success - but both I enjoyed musically.

Sonny T, Micheal B, Tommy Barbarella, etc were indeed all very discernable and colourful.

I have to say I'm loving the hornless lineup he's doing in Australia at the moment, back to the straight-up MPLS sound with Cassie playing the proper synth stabs in place of the hornz. It sounds great. Although Horns did feature prominently on Get Wild, New Poer Soul, Johnny, and a whole bunch of NPG tunes. I wonder if the sonic textures would expand and it's be more of a rainbow children type record now.

You could argue however that those NPG albums came out of frustration at WB not wanting him to release all his voluminous stuff on his schedule. He doesn't have that problem now.

I hope he reads this and it puts the idea in his head.

Wasn't "New Power Soul" supposed to be an NPG album?

The unreleased album "Peace" was also credited to the NPG IIRC. Not that I would want it to be released in the future or something like that. The title track was weak enough.

Let's all hope to God there won't be. Or at least THIS version of the NPG (or the version he's been using for the past few years).

Also, if he's so all about the new, why doesn't he change the band's name, for one? The shit's over 20 years old, and the band isn't even remotely close to being as good as it was in its hey day (93-95 era).

If there's another release like "Exodus" then I'm all for it. But I agree drop the name "New Power". There's nothing "new" about it anymore.

'True Funk Soldiers' should of been an NPG album around the Musicology era.

If there was another NPG album, then the lead vocalist would be Prince. As both the 3rd and (unreleased) 4th albums both featured him on lead vocals.

The Slaughterhouse could be considered an NPG album too, as almost all the songs from the shelved Peace album ended up on there. So most of the tracks on it were officially credited to either the NPG or O+> rather than 'Prince'.

I agree - if there was another NPG album, then the lead vocalist would be Prince. I really don't know why New Power Soul is officially a NPG album, lead vocals and most of the instruments are by Prince.
