Lemon Crush appreciation thread (cue tumbleweed)

There seems to be a re-emergence of interest in the Batman album on the org recently, yet even fans of the album are dismissing Lemon Crush as a throwaway song. I personally love it, and feel it fits perfectly on the album.

Am I the only one who digs this song?

The "If I'm workin' at my jobba, I'm the victim, U're the robba", lyric makes me cringe though. I pretend that part doesn't exist.

Agreed. That and the aforementioned 'bitty' line.

What on earth is wrong with "If I'm working at my job, I'm the victim you like to rob"?

Was it too much to ask for a final draft before commiting to tape? lol

It's always been one of my faves from that album. I remember thinking back in 89 that it was a little "light" compared to most of his other output, but how cool it would have sounded on the radio for that reason. Too bad it wasn't a single...

I like the original line. I think it has a better rhythm to it when its said that way.

As for the song as a whole: The chorus kinda gets on my tits....but I love the verses and the little instrumental break.

I'm ready for the Crush. Come on Prince, play "Lemon Crush" live just once. I would go to "Welcome anywhere Tour" for that.

I've never understood the disdain for this song. This along with 'Electric Chair' were my favourites from the first time I listened to Batman.

I love love love the start of this song. "Ready for the crush?" & Prince's moans over that damn beat drool

One of my favorites from Batman as well. The amazing thing about this cut is that P can write something so minor, but it means so much. Is it me or does the rhythm of this song remind you of "Jungle Love" or better yet, a little bit of MJ's "Thriller?"

You're right. The bassline on Lemon Crush is pretty much the same as Jungle Love, and close to Thriller's.

Hated it, absolutely loathed it at first, thought it was one of the worst songs he had ever written.

But about a decade later it hit me suddenly and I totally got it. Love it now, one of my favorites on the Batman album.

Tho' not THE best...
