No this is more than a rumour. The source is on leparisien.fr but you need to pay to see the full article. This concert must be organized for UNICEF. It is a free concert. It is a charity concert. The newspaper Le Parisien is very well informed. They are talking about it everywhere in the media today over here in France : radio stations, papers. It is everything but a rumour.
Prince wants a movie to be made out of it as the concert would happen by the Eiffel Tower.
The authorization has been sent to Paris town hall already (VII arrondissement). Hopefull they will authorize the concert.
Prince has had in mind concerts in exceptional places in Paris and around Paris already for the last 3 years. |

Believe it when I see it but I'm all for a P concert in 3D!! Throw in some extras, bluray audio of some studio recordings!! DO IT!!! Folks some of the 3d stuff looks good even without the glasses. Bluray/3d and Bluray-audio is in the now. The system I have can upscale regular films to 3d and I got to say! I'm impressed watching "Sign o the Times" upscale 3d. Gimmick?? Nah. Reselling CDS remastered is long past but Prince bluray audio!! 5.1 or 7.1! 3d!! YEAH PURPLE NERDS!!!!! |

From what I can gather, these rumours suggest a release for theatres, it's not mentioned a release for the home video market.....yet.

Prince plans to give a big concert at the foot of the Eiffel Tower on the evening of July 14 . An initiative that has not yet been validated by the town hall and the prefecture but that would be a real event for the National Day . Prince has such a love of Paris and France that he wants to even give a free concert at the foot of the Eiffel Tower on the day of National Day, July 14. This is what we found Le Parisien in its edition today.The singer launched the idea, even a formal request has been sent to the town hall of seventh district, where are the Eiffel Tower and the Champs de Mars lawn that can accommodate hundreds of thousands of spectators. Police headquarters says his side have not yet received any application for authorization.
Last year it was at the initiative of SOS Racism a big show together several artists as Yannick Noah, or Benabar Nolwenn Leroy was organized. Prince announces that he will donate all profits to UNICEF. Intentioned but that one wonders where it will draw potential benefits seen that the concert is supposed to be free.

It wouldn't conflict with Madonna for simple reasons:
(1) Paris is a big friggin city with lots of friggin people. (2) If Madonna's I assume will be at an arena or concert hall or whatever, Prince will be at a public space. (3) it'll be free. People like free stuff.

I'm all for good causes and if this concert actually happens then that's good. I would however, not be holding ones breath for a concert film.

What I wonder is if the concert does happen, will any distributor want to distribute the movie? Oh God imagine if he tried to distribute it himself. Opening next week in Detroit, opening in L.A. 3 Christmases later.
If anything, if he had foresight, he should consider the possibility of just releasing this straight to DVD, but for 3-D TVs/playback machines if nobody is willing to distribute it. Who's done that yet for concerts? But I would only consider that as a consequential follow-up to the theatrical release, and not as an alternative to theatrical distribution.

We know that would've sold a few copies if it were released while the tour was still on. This is Prince we are talking about. Even if the concert does happen, would he release it? With my luck if it is a brilliant show he is capable of...it won't be released. If it is an ok show with Shelby singing covers, it's a lock to be released. man, i admit MY mind has already gone to set-list speculation. and after Sea of Everything came up on my Ipad, I thought, wow, he should do a segment where he says, "Is Paris still for Lovers?" (repeat, I said is Paris still for lovers...mad screams ensue) and he proceeds to do a couple of his recent stellar ballads like Sea, Better wit Time, and Adore!

It does not sound like anything is confirmed. Could be just disinformation to promote something else, a rumour or maybe they wont confirm because the area would be swamped it they confirm it in advance. |

No, I just read the original article (en francais). The police have not had any official requests for permits, etc., no Mayoral approval yet, etc. The author was apparently reporting a 'serious' rumor. If it's true (great idea!), whoever is planning this needs to get moving. The article mentions he organized the concert at the Stade de France (2011) in just one month, so there's still time. When you don't have a case, yell RACE! |

Soul superstar Prince has been denied permission to perform a free concert under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France next month (Jul12) because the proposed show clashes with the country's Bastille Day celebrations. The Purple Rain icon planned to bring the heart of the city to a standstill on 14 July (12) by staging a charity gig under the tourist attraction to mark the national holiday, but his request has been rejected by Mayor Bertrand Delanoe as locals traditionally celebrate with a major fireworks display at the venue. A representative for the Mayor says, "There was a request from the producer of Prince in France to organise a concert on July 14. But our priority is the July 14 fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, which is not compatible with this project. "We are ready to study another concert date, discussions are under way." Prince and his team are now hoping to hold the gig, to raise awareness about the fight against Hiv and Aids, in September (12).
