Prince's work with George Clinton

Love them both. Could you tell me about more songs they recorded together? Or any live shows? Or Clinton's songs that P. covered? I really dig We Can Funk, oh and Clinton's cover of Erotic City is cool too, although I prefer the original version. smile

We Can Funk is absolutely in my Top 5 favorite Prince songs of all time. Absolutely.

I'm not sure what exactly George's role in the creation of the song is, though, other that a few lines. Can anyone elaborate?

I'm not sure he had much involvement apart from contributing vocals.

I can't stand the released version, although the 1986 version is one of my favourite out-takes.

I absolutely loooove "paradigm"...."we can funk" is mediocre imo....sonically and lyricaly

"We Do This" from the aftershow disc is pretty damn fly tho....

It used to be my bong music...pull out the bong...hit play...load it up and toke away.

Paradigm is incredible!

Like a modern Scarlet Pussy. Another one proving he could do it like before if he really wanted to.

I'm not too keen on the additions Clinton added to "We Can Funk". I like all the Prince parts that were there before the trading back and forth happened.

I really really love their collaboration on the bootleg song "Soul Psychodelicide" the version that begins with Clinton's voice talking about "This is a fuzztone reality All the high-tech Muzac in the world Can't distort the flashback..."

Soul Psychodelicide is ace, everything else is m'eh. Paradigm is pretty dull and what's the other one - The Big Pump? More like the Big Dump.

The Big Pump is awesome right at the second verse when he says "Cupid's shooting his crossbow!" The bass at that exact moment is badass.

You were the first person in the thread not to say something at least a bit positive or congratulatory. shrug

I know I'm gonna flamed for this but I was a little dissapointed with the collabs between George and P. As an old school P-Funk/Prince fan I really thought that they were gonna "tear the roof off". Their funk to me sounded watered down.

I liked "We Can Funk" but when I heard "The Cinderella Theory"......UGH! Major dissapointment.

They probably should have hooked up in the early 80's when P was riding high with "1999" and

George had his comeback with "Atomic Dog". They probably could have came up with some funk so hard, it probably would have had "Parental Advisory" stickers all over it.

I also felt the same way about P's collabs with Larry Graham..(NOT hanging with him)..but the collabs. I was expecting some old school but modern funk/soul/rock with Larry and P but it didn't happen.

Just my 2 cents. If you dig it, cool.

"Martial Law".. I actually like this. cool

the first track on "Hey Man Smell My Finger".

ps:

I always thought Prince wrote this song without taking credit for it,

I mean the sound is sooo "Princey".

actually I thought Prince wrote and produced most of those songs on that album..

and giving credits to others. Who knows the truth besides Prince..

Of course some of you don't think so, and will correct me now.. question

Although I also think Prince is all over "Hey Man..." (regardless of "official" or "expert" opinion), I don't hear Prince's voice, altered or not, at the end of Martial Law.

I'm not sure which part you think is P. Please note the time and lyrics.

Thanks.

^ the "Prince scream" "whooohoooohoo" - at 3:00,

and the "Prince altered voice" singing (the 2 words) "Martial Law" 3:02 and repeating it.. in a Camille kind of voice:

well, that's how I hear it... officially Prince is not on this track..

or is he..? wink

That's Belita Woods you hear. She has a very unique voice that sounds "Camille-ish" ( biggrin ) without any effects whatsoever.

I wouldn't be surprised if Prince plays something on the track. But, sorry, no, that's not him.

I too think the funk they came up with was watered down. Most of it sounded like it was made by some Prince and George Clinton impersonators. I was expecting some Atomic Dog777-9311Corporate World, hybird shit. I do think paradigm was a major jam and i liked We can funk though.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
