Damn, you beat me to it! It's only been up for three minutes.

Loving the Ice Cream Castles interpolation in the beginning.

The Ice Cream Castles riff is kinda tight.

By sending this to Terry Lewis & fDeluxe, I wonder if this is Prince's way of affirming his ownership of the music, not only in terms of copyright, but also in terms of "pwning."

Ditto.

Unless him playing "Cool" also wasn't meant as a swipe at the reformed Time.

Anyway back to topic, haterz on this jam will flood the thread in 3, 2, 1....

I agree it's a swipe at both FDeluxe & Original 7. And those proclaiming the departure of "Brother Larry" may have been a bit premature... sounds like him on the 2nd verse. sad

With that arrogance, you wouldn't think he owes some perfume punks $4 million. But his control is threatened, even if everybody else doesn't care.

Why do people think this is a DIG at FDeluxe and O7? Just because Prince picked Mutiny/Ice Cream Castles as the song(s)? I hate how most folks here automatically go to the negative interpretation of things. rolleyes

I agree. Not sure why because there are also some "lyrics/statements" that could be interpreted as very positive, like 1,2,3,4, everybody get on the dance floor... oh well.

Besides, it seems odd for anyone to assume to know the context, content of any conversations or communications had between Prince, other artists, friends, family, etc. its just too silly.

Well if I recall correctly "Mutiny" was originally a dig at Morris for leaving the origina Time.

If this were just a rehearsal, I wouldn't wonder about it. BUT the context matters: he sent this to both fDeluxe & Terry Lewis--after Terry Lewis reportedly inquired about opening acts in Australia.

When has Prince ever sent either of them music / much less rehearsal of songs they once performed? (or in the case of The Time was about them?)

I don't think it's a stretch... on the positive side, he could be saying "Oh y'all want some of this... then bring it on... meet me in Oz." But I doubt it.

I'm not discounting what you said. I guess I'm just tired of people automatically assuming the worst of Prince. That's a big reason I'm hardly ever on here anymore.

I'm not saying Prince can do no wrong, but I don't think he's as cold as some people believe him to be. shrug

why would he make it public that this was a shot at them? We just had the interview with Jimmy Jam where he says

While we’re talking about Prince, have you and Terry every talked about producing him?

We’d love to do it. And he knows it. We’ve talked about it over the years. When we were in Minneapolis, and had our studio up there, he came by and visited one day and fell in love with Studio A, the design for which was based on a studio called Westlake. It just was a great, big, comfortable room.

And we asked him at one point, “Could we ever go through your vault and just pick out some songs and maybe mix them or do something like that?” And he said, “Yeah that’d be great. I’ll let you guys have ten songs and you can do with them what you want.” So we’ve talked about that. We’ve talked about us producing him. We’ve talked about him using our studio to record. And I think Terry might have had a conversation with him in the last couple months where some of those same things came up. So you never know. I don’t even know whether that’s something that would be successful or not, but I’d love to try it. At the end of the day, I’m probably one of the biggest Prince fans ever.

Even for Prince, who can be unpredictable at times, the theory that this is a shot at them just doesn't make sense. I personally would love to see Jam and Lews produce a Prince album. Have someone in charge who can push him a bit - someone where thee's mutual respect from the start.

Remember, in addition to the song, Prince sent Paul and Terry the YouTube video of the little kid saying "Thumbs up for rock and roll!" I think that's a good sign...

Sweet Jebus, this is one gigantic pile of dung. Oh, those painful "Mutiny" chants by those untalented backup singers.

Go compare this to the version on the recently freed boot of one of Prince's 1986 New York concerts.

Last time I checked, the calender said it was 2012, not 1986. Don't like it, fine. Go listen to those bootlegs or cry over your Trent Reznor posters.
