the huge media backlash to Prince's career, when he was at his creative peak..... in the mid 1980's.

what am I talking about?

When Prince refused to be at the We Are The World/ USA For Africa project made by MJ and his camp...

Maybe wise because that song they were singing were really cringe worthy, terrible.

but... that incident, not to show up was hurting Prince.. his reputation and his record sales, very bad,

and (imho) this caused the bad blood between MJ and Prince.

Now.. don't make this another one of those "P versus MJ threads", pleeeeasee.. wink

The moment he joined the JW cult is definitely the worst moment.

Runner Ups:

• When he hired the stylist responsible for the outfits and hairdoes of the Rave era.

• Every single album cover art approval decision except for the black album.

• Putting Jughead on Diamonds and Pearls.

• Deciding that The Gold Experience really needed another five or six tracks of sounds layered on top to make it sound right.

• Pissing of Rosie Gaines.

He's famous for making questionable career decisions, the whole prince name change completely baffled everyone, including many of his strongest supporters. I remember it was really hard to justify to people, they just couldn't get with an unpronounceable name thing. It's interesting he's made so many of these "career destroyer" moves, but still rebuilds with his sheer force of creativity. Most superstars try to cling to the image they created, even as it crumbles before them, but Prince actively tore down his old persona and liberated himself from its confines. A true iconoclast.

Just a limited release of 20Ten was a mistake?

I thought its release entirely was a mistake. Terrible album. Just terrible. It pains me to say that being such a big fan, but seriously, the production sounded like something that a 6 year old would bang out of a Childrens Casio Keyboard.

Whether it was wise or not, I don't think the gagging of youtube was 'humiliating' in any way, nor could it qualify on the scale of the worst moment in his career.

And, much as I realise it sucks for you guys, never having played NZ or Malta - or however many other countries - is not exactly the worst moment in Prince's career (and not just because it doesn't actually make any sense gramatically or logically). But I assume you just threw that one in there wink

I'd say it was during his battle with wb .. i don't mind the name change but the music that followed destroyed his legend .. he still had something with tony m on board. tony m took on the cheeseball personality but the music underneath still sounded like the true prince .. but gold represented prince becoming the cartoon cheeseball .. his music sounded like the soundtrack to some horrible saturday morning cartoon .. all his lyrics took a nose dive and his boasts were so bad they ruined the music .. prince never recovered .. even in his attempts to reduce the stupidity of his lyrics from musicology on .. he still cant get thru a song without saying something stupid and cringe worthy .. its so sad that he fought so hard for ownership of his music and all the music he had the rights to after wb was so bad .. its hard to say who was right .. wb gave prince the resources to make such great music .. it would have benefitted both prince and wb if they had worked something out that they were both happy with .. wb is dead and so is prince abilty to write good music .. oh well .. thats the moment if u ask me

Let me just get it out of the way and say I think it is when he started hanging out with Larry Graham and doing interviews like that one he did on the Sinbad show. I was like has he been completely brainwashed ?

Extra-Laughable. He has never looked more desperate than the recent release and then their is the photo of him with the sword and mini-afro wig.

Absolutely!!!

Larry is our Yoko.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Pretty good examples right here. I'd add

Filming Under The Cherry Moon

Disbanding The Revolution

Approving the Lovesexy album cover

Filming Graffiti Bridge

Wearing a bannana hammock, suspenders and roller skates

Thinking he needed to be relevant with rap

Changing his name to a symbol

Looking like a tranny in the mid 90's

The bolded ones and other issues not listed can all be tracked back to a single root cause

- the moment he decided he could manage his career better than the professionals. He immediately went from a record 15 consecutive years with top 10 hits to 17 consecutive years and counting without a top 10 hit. To put the drought in perspective, Madonna has had 10 top 10 hits (and 25 #1 dance chart hits) since Prince decided to split with the professionals. I picked Madonna because they are the same age, had the same record label, and continue to release albums.

I don't buy the "but he's making more money" argument at all because most of the money he makes is from touring (Madonna has grossed $1 billion touring this century). His WB catalog has to be generating more earnings for him than his post warners catalog, and I'm sure he doesn't subtract out his own increased expenses when he talks about how much money he makes now.

For me it was that entire year in which he released the

"Open Letter to Madonna", which she never publically responded to.

The letter itself was cringeworthy, desperate, and embarassing in tone.

But, there are so many strange moments, that it's hard for me to say this is truly the topper.

It's just simply the first thing that popped into my head. lol

Oh, but there's been so many!

He's definately said some things over the past few years that's made me wish he'd keep his silly little trap shut. It's never fun to see one of your favourite entertainers out themselves as a total fucking douche.

She was putting up with his bullshit mostly

She would have stayed with Prince but Prince played sexual mind games

And did the same with Morris but not not the (sexual aspect) but control mind games yes

For me its not including musical/band moments and showing the new proteges and firing the director. Under the Cherry Moon could have been better.

lol the Lovesexy cover could have been on the inside or like the Controversy or 1999 1/2nude images. Prince in a white ruffled shirt hold the blue angel would have been cool
