If I was a parent of a special needs child, I would never consider them "retarded" there fore I would not connect the word to my child and be offended at hearing it, unless they specifically were referrring to my child (or any other special needs child or person) When you read a label that says "fire retardant" are you offended? should a parent of a child with special needs be offended?
