This time there is no minimum bid, but there is a reserve price. I wonder if that is the most expensive Prince release in existence, or if the vinyl 1987 release is even rarer. Has it been proven that the mastering on the 1987 pressings are identical to what they did in 1994?

I believe I did pay 100 Dutch guilders for the "original" Trojan Horse-bootleg back in the 90's... that's about € 45,00 and not very much actually...

But I also found some very cheap items...

the two (original) Madhouse-albums for only € 10,00 each...

Black Sweat (red vinyl)... got it for free from a record-store that had some spare copys

the Jill Jones-cd € 20,00

Thats one of the very few that never got into my collection.

I paid a grip for that concert series bootleg.

I picked up the Japanese "My Name was Prince" promo cd around late 2003 and purchased it for around $500. I had it for about 6 months and deceided to sell it on Ebay for Around $750. The packaging is cool but I can think it's a little overated. Also of note is that if you put the disc in I-tunes, gracenote recognizes it as "My Name Eas Prince" I sold it becaude it really didnt make my cd collection pop, and i was able to score alot more one of a kind items. Now if i can get my hands on a Steve Park "Gold Experience" jewel case I would be one happy collector. I was offered one in 1996 for $1200. I should of bought it then, since i have never seen one up for sale. it's a really coool item to look at in person.

I got into a last minute bidding war (and lost!) on that disc a few years ago, in the last 20 secs it shot from £35 to £120! i was like thank fuck for that!

i have since downloaded it and am glad i lost the bid, apart from the track in ahdio show it's a bit meh.

on a side note it says in his bio he played for prince when was that?

Yes it's difficult to find, and fetches quite high prices when it crops up.

Sounds like you have some serious (no pun intended) cd's in your collection.

I must say this thread has got me thinking about selling a few of my doubles of the rarer Prince stuff.

Before i sold my copy, I made 2 copies of it using Disc to Disc transfer, so i would not lose any quality. It does not sound remastered at all, but the volume on the disc does sound louder. When i get a chance, I will run it thru audacity or another audio program. If someone knows a good program for Mac where I can compare the original audio files to the "My Name was Prince" files, that would be extremely appreciated.. It kind of sounds as loud as "Come". I think for the mastering process they just tweaked the audio to sound louder.

The booklet is nice &folds out which shows all the Prince albums per individual panel (up to the "Hits" and i believe a few common "Hits" era pictures are included as well.

A cd I almost purchased in 2003 was a supposed promo cd single pressed on EMI for "Da,Da,Da" which stated that it included a "Money Maker Remix","Album Version", and "Money Maker Instrumental". At the time I heard that I was told that "Money Maker Remix" featured the lyrics from the Emancipaion words and music book(Aka the poor mans Jam of the Year Tourbook). I had it up to $800 on ebay and received word from some prominent collectors that the promo was a fake. And also the seller was not really trustworthy. So I wound up retracting my bid. Man, I would of pissed if I spent $800 on a fake promo cd.

Really? That much for solid black colored long box with no writing or artwork????!!!

IMHP, When WB re-released The Black Album, the original CD pressings lost a little value.

IMHP, When WB re-released The Black Album, the original CD pressings lost a little value.

Yeah, I know. If I had a sealed copy of that, I couldn't resist opening it up to look at the CD, and I'd probably rip it to make sure it's really the same as the 1994 version. But that would be like buying an extremely rare stamp and using it to mail a letter, like in Brewster's Millions. If there is a buyer for that longbox Black Album CD, I'll bet it goes straight into that person's safe deposit box.

As a rule, when it comes to Prince, I usually only sell things that I have 2 or more copies of. Unless i'm in the situation one day where I need to sell more, I hope that never happens.

It was the same for me for many years, but certain circumstances in my life changed and because of that I started to sell stuff from my huge collection.

I'm not going to criticize the buyer at all, but look at the amount of really great rare Prince cd's/records/whatever that could have been bought with that $7,500, mind you it's a fair bet that someone spending that much on one item will have everything else there is to have anyway.

The mastering is exactly the same as on the Japanese "Hits" releases...

People (mostly owners of one of these) claim/wish this is really as rare as they say it is, which it isn't, because they got scammed into paying a fortune for it...

This release was supposed to be for Japanese WB suits exclusively, but a shitload (as in 50+) of boxes of these were produced (1 box contained 25 of these discs.) and shipped to WB offices and officials in Europe and the US...

I sold the contents of 1 box of these mid 1990's at $25 a piece and these aren't worth the price people ask for it nowadays, it's just a standard promo disc people hang on to because of the made up rarity myth...
