I don't recall any bad guitar solos in my opinion. I think his guitar playing on his worse day is better than a lot of guitarist's best days.

I'd say his worst would be the James Brown/ Michael Jackson on the same stage performance, but I still liked that one.

Doesn't go together....Prince & a bad guitar solo? That is his main instrument.

This might sound treasonous but I've never really liked the solo on 'She's Always in My Hair' - probably cuz I think the tone is just weak. He should have dumped the phaser on that one.

not true, like every guitar player he have good and bad days.Prince weakest live playing was well documented on cafe de paris and rave 2000 dvds.Sometimes he even play lazy studio guitar solo.New Power Soul title track from 1998 comes to my mind.so Prince have bad moments, but many fans will kiss his behind and say he don't

Actually, his "main" instrument is piano.

...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

There are none, unless he is just plodding along on a rhythm guitar track. Most of his best songs have solos (Even the ones on his early albums, Bambi's solo of which I am listening to now, is still outstanding). Most of the songs have guitar solos and at least some guitar breaks in them, as he has always been a leader, he may have recorded rhythm guitar parts in the studio, but on stage he always makes sure a band member is usually playing the rhythm guitar parts while Prince does the soloing. And even then he's had a lot of great gutiarists who have been allowed to solo on stage and jam at times and inspire Prince. Dez, Wendy, Miko and Levi come to mind.

Maybe some of his later plastic sounding songs are less great. A lot of the guitar on Hot wit U and Rave un2 the Joy fantastic sounds pretty cliche, but not bad.

Prince is just a guitar god period. Piano may be his main instrument, but I bet guitar is his favourite.

nohing against you Neon but everybody who say that prince don't have his best and worst guitar solo is clearly kissing Prince's ass. Jimi Hendrix,Satriani,Steve Vai all had a moment when they couldn't execute their ideas on guitar ending with not so great result,so be hobest and give us your list of not so good solos.

I still love the solo on Batdance. Metal was big in the day, I remember setting my Prince dissing metal friends the challenge of finding a charting metal song with a longer or better guitar solo - they couldn't. Off topic I know.

I agree.

The Batdance guitar solo has to be one of his most under rated solos.

On topic,I can't think of any of his songs that have bad guitar solos.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I preferred it when his main instrument was his cock. He probably did too.

Good call for Batdance. See Banished I do like some of his stuff.

And Neon, Brown/Jackson performance, you think that was a solo!? Fuck me you're easily pleased. Come round my house and hear me play, you'll think I'm fucking fantastic. Nobody else does but it'd be nice to hear it said just once.

But I can hum it so it must be memorable. It has a pattern that ebbs and flows. All solos should do that. Hence why I love Flying in a Blue Dream so much.

No it didn't! it was one of the best live versions of that song. Besides on the Act 1 Act II tour.

If you aren't purposely trolling, then you should seek medical attention and get your esophagus separated from Prince's urethra.

I believe the song "Batdance" is a ridiculous piece of crap that was a clear cashgrab. I can't even think of the solo you're referring to; "Batdance" is probably my least-listened to track of his entire catalog.

So there's that.

I agree. Batdance is right up there with the best Prince tracks period. I think some folks cannot get past the mainstream commercial Batman aspect of the song to appreciate it for what it is. But everything about the track is interesting. It was nice to hear a Prince track as experimental as this hit the charts and become a top 10 hit. It truly is a bizarre track, whether it was attached to a mainstream commercial movie or not. The guitar groove on the second half is a classic all on it's own.

i agree about act 2 version being good but Rave version is awful because of Prince's plastic guitar sound and unispired solo.the only thing saving it from disaster is Larry's monster bass groove.if you wanna hear amazing version of this song check for paisley p. Celebration of the song. It's crazy good.it sounds like another guitar player compared to Rave version.Something was very off during Rave period.Even Purple Rain was performed very poor

Really, you think Batdance is a weird track? It's a remix without the "Remix" classification. Just sounds like any typical 1989 pop remix to me. Same pattern is seen on GB where Junior Vasquez did all those mix jobs.

Batdance kind of sounds like a lot of the not-great tracks from around that time, but remixed with no chorus/verse structure. But it's interesting to hear it called 'weird'... I think Cream is much weirder, for instance.
