Sign 'O' The Times's Question

Why didn't Prince release another single from SOTT after ICNTTPOYM? I mean the album was critically aclaimed and commercially successful so....why didn't he?

Hot Thing was released as the next single. Got some radio play but from what I remember it was a bad edit of the song.

Didnt Prince abandon the project after the European tour?

Most things that I worry about, never happen anyway

Hmm looked it up, it wasn't but it was used as the b-side to ICNTTPOYM

Stand corrected. Remember hearing it on Joel Denver's "Future Hits" and not liking how they cut the song up.

There were actually plans for Ballad of Dorothy Parker to be released as a single in late 1987, but it was eventually abandoned.

Imagine what that would have done???

I think the radio would have had to get use that that! I mean what sounds like 'The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker'??

Nothing really...lol

Because by the time his album comes out and he starts touring, it is usually old history to him and the combination of short attention span and his ability/curse to always come up with new ideas/songs/concepts makes him eager to move on.

Remember when Emancipation (the album he was born to create) was going to be a 3 year project? PSYCH! He got bored with that one too.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

because Prince had already moved on.By the time "ICNTTPOYM" was released,he was already focused on The Black Album and soon after, the Lovesexy sessions.Imo,SOTT is the type of album that could have lasted a year on the charts. There are several songs that could have been released as singles throughout 1988.

Did you time travel from 1996? Time to wipe the eye-liner off your cheek.

Against better judgement, the SOTT USA tour was canned and replaced with the movie, by which time he'd compiled the Black Album, set to work on Graffiti Bridge mk1, then cancelled TBA and set upon recording Lovesexy starting Dec.87. As usual Prince is jazzed about the latest thing he's cooking and has no time for sitting down and enjoying the meal.

Actually,a Warner Bros. executive said that she wishes that they had more time with the record. They wanted to release more singles throughout 1988 but Prince had other plans.

It was considered a double A-side single. Both songs charted.

"I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" went to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on the Billboard Dance chart.

"Hot Thing" went to number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on the r&b chart.

Remember, there was talk of releasing the Black album toward the end of 87, but WB continued to push ICNTTPOYM and Hot Thing.
