Yeah, saw some clips and it is mainly people right after seeing him live wetting their pants with praise. It could have had more substance. I'm watching a great documentary on Fishbone 'Everyday Sunshine'. It's a great history of the band with interviews from band members and other artists, with a critical view on society and the industry, narrated by none other than Laurence Fishburne. Way better than Behind The Symbol.

I've seen that doc and it's great. Pretty imaginative. I even met the director of that show. It actually made me interested in Fishbone a bit more.

That Behind The Symbol was just "OMG, like Prince is so awesome, OMG, OMG....he like totally blew me and me friends away".

The message does come across unclear. I think orger sosgemini is right. It's probably the people at the Africa Channel who put that program together, who may be the ones nominated for the award. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

We will have to wait and see! I just hope he performs. I'm not really concerned about awards as much. Haha, Although that would be cool! I just want to see what comes next! This info has us all 'Hyped' because Prince has not done anything in public in 2012 yet!

It's a very long time since I just had to watch things like a documentary about Prince.

I remember one from 1989 - Prince: A Musical Portrait w interviews from Eric Clapton, George Clinton, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and even some more.

On the tape was also an alternate take of the Partyman music video, I really enjoyed this tape.

Those were the days to be a fan of Prince.

I love docs like Prince of Paisley Park which featured a lot of the Lovesexy era and exposed us to behind the scenes stuff and God Is Alive etc

Hopefully Prince will attend . But I doubt it. I will be attending like last year when he presented His beautiful lookalike Halle Berry with an award...

I can tell a bit about it, by memory, (since I don't have a VCR recorder anymore):

the girl swimming in the big bowl: some up close pics is included, showing the girl's breasts iirc...

the editing is different, the rollerskate girl gets throwed off the stage, (the scene at the stairs)

in the final music video to Partyman, this (which is about a half second) isn't showed, is edited out.....

the sound effects isn't added (yet?): Prince whistleing at the beginning is missing,

again this is by memory,

probably some more differences.

Exactly. Its not a documentary but more a PR advertisement. It does however have some concert footage. The host is awful and we get Lopez giving us a blow by blow of his TV interview, zzzzzzz. It is currently here on youtube while it lasts.

I don't think the short promo is available anymore at the Africa Channel's link, but it only showed testimonies from fans/celebs talking about their experiences at his concerts over the years. It did not include the performance. It aired on the Africa Channel earlier this year on cable.

I wonder why there haven't been any more real documentaries about Prince? There has to be more directors pining to do this besides the Africa Channel...right?

On that same note, I just don't get why he hasn't done another concert movie like the Musicology Tour/LA opener. Use a better director and it would come out amazing - and give the director some say in what's shown. It wouldn't have to be simulcast live like the LA show in 2004. Piece together some great performances and I know hundreds of people who would pay to see it (The alternative is the 'Alladin' DVD which is overedited and just ok IMO). C'mon P, let's get the music out there!
