?uestlove Airs Out Tina Fey And Prince

Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson found himself in the hot seat on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. When Andy Cohen asked Questlove if he had ever not been credited for his contribution to an album, he said Prince hadn’t credited him on Prince’s One Night Only album. Apparently, Thompson sat in on drums for a song and didn’t receive any recognition. ?uestlove isn’t tripping though. He later said, “There’s no need to get lawyers involved.”

On the other hand, he wasn’t so nice to Tina Fey. Questo commented that Tina Fey and The Roots haven’t bonded like most Philadelphians do when they meet each other. Check out the clip below. Was Questo right to bring that up on national television or should he have handled that in person?

Or maybe he just played on it and thinks he should be credited.

?uestlove should learn the name of the CD he played on and also did he really play on it or just jump in behind the drummer like at all the concerts he's gone to. If that's the case then Chris Rock is owed some money for backing vocals at the NYC W2A show in February!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Wasn't that the song from Dreamgirls that Beyonce stole from Jennifer Hudson? lol

?uestlove did jump on the drums at one point during that aftershow but unless it was when musiq soulchild did his number then i can't really recall what song he did jump on the stage during that concert

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

He actually did state the name of the album correctly as One Nite Alone. The text in the article is incorrect. I guess it's easier for some to blindly defend Saint Prince than to fact check.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I wonder if you go to an aftershow and jam with an artist and it gets released officially what are you entitled to? The bootleggers usually list who is prominently featured on a track but if you just jumped in there, I don't know? I know ?uestlove has been on Prince's stage more than once but I can't ever recall seeing him credited for performing on any track ever.

Yeah I wouldn't step to Questlove as far as Prince fandom goes. He seems very legit and talks about loving Prince, enthuses about obscure tracks and side projects, etc, all the time. Seems like a quality dude.

Actually in the recent RS piece about ? he mentions in passing about how one time Prince tipped him [Quest] a $50 bill “for looking good in a suit.”

I have no idea what that means, but it's hilarious.

EDIT: there's a good shot of dude in that same RS piece with his record collection, and you can see 1999, Madhouse, and Glamorous Life poking out at the bottom of the page. All vinyl of course. I'd love to hang out with Questlove.

Thank you! I saw the incorrect title, and thought that's weird considering what a fan he is. So I listened to the video and heard him get it right.

He mentions a Sly Stone cover, so it must be the Musiq Soulchild piece, as mentioned above, since that was combined with "If You Want Me to Stay"

"Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I think it has more to do with just jumping on stage. The key here is that it was an official release. As I recall, that album is credited to Prince & the NPG. If you are not Prince, and you are not an official member of the NPG, then you should be credited if you played ANY instrument on a song that was recorded onto that album. Otherwise, one would just assume it was John Blackwell on the track.

I wonder what song? I didn't watch the video either as I don't really care, but that's one of my favorite albums.

I don't think what Prince did was right (if true), but it doesn't affect my feelings towards his music, or even who he is as a person. After hearing that Kevin Smith story, I know how annoying and ignorant Prince can be - this story doesn't really shock me.

I don't even think ?uestlove is all that bothered by it. Since then he has been to countless Prince concerts, and jammed on the drums (and even a cowbell) many times. I just think he was truthfully answering Andy Cohen's question.

Indeed. Ahmir wasn't acting ruffled about it, but since it popped into his head and out of his mouth so immediately, I'm guessing he feels that a simple credit from his musical hero would have been all the compensation necessary. But we all know(as does he) that Prince never sweats little "details" like proper album credits. Never has.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Haha...Exactly. He never seems to pay attention to small 'details' which accompany album credits. Haha. Prince rather charge him for cursing, in the swear jar. Haha. SEE THERE WE GO! Haha
