Gett Off yo ass

I recall seeing Prince playing a bass (?) while at a sound desk when he gets a call informing him that Mel B was there to have a chat at tthe start of Beautiful Strange (NPG Video).

I also remember him play both keyboards and playing guitar at the same time in another clip I've seen, again at the sound desk.

While listening recently to The Slaughterhouse, which I enjoyed once again, I found myself noticing how bland the vocals were. Almost as if he was just sitting at the desk reciting the lyrics.

Now we all love his live shows with him jumping around and getting his own adrenalin pumping and again while we enjoy (in general) his recent Albums, could a possible reason that they aren't adored his because once again he is trying to do all from a comfortable seat at the sound desk.

Question is should Prince record like he did in the beginning...in the studio with that adrenalin pumping, that essence of life and a start would be for him to Gett Off his ass!

Thoughts??

I completely agree. Though I admit I do like most of his recent stuff, he does seem to be just phoning it in, like he couldn't be bothered. We all know how talented he is and how he can play every instrument under the sun but for his next album I think he should ditch the solo act, and record it live with the NPG (or better yet, The Revolution). He's a great live performer, but it doesn't show in any of his recent output.

Joey Joey...Joey

First off, prehaps I don't know Prince music as well as you, but then again maybe I do from, just judging from some of you other posts about tracks you haven't heard that's been around for at least a year bored

What I was trying to get at was that most everyone here agrees that Prince recent releases (meaning the last 24 years) have seen some very good releases and some outstanding ones but very few have set the world on fire.

The last album where I feel art was created was The Rainbow Children which also birthed the most musical enjoy series of concerts of Prince's career.

A lot of the other releases, Rave In/Un 2 the Joy Fantastic, 3121, Planet Earth, Musicology have moments but overall aren't striving to challenge or express Princes Art.

They are formula, 9-12 tracks of a mixture of Ballad, Soul, Rock....very MoD

This leads me to believe that recording no longer inspires Prince and that it is now just a Job, a thought that has been reinforced by the pictures or clips I refer to, of him playing and singing from an office chair at the desk.

I want Prince to be alive to the same way he expresses at live show (but some of those lately seem phoned in as well)

I don't want Prince sitting at a desk...I want him challenging the canvas.....I want him to Gett Off.
