When discussing "The Plan" you guys mentioned that it was the same as the version on Kamasutra. Actually the Emancipation version is slightly edited. One runs about 1:47 and the other about 2:02. I am shocked that you guys are not intimately familiar with every cranny and nook of Kamasutra.
I was also disappointed to hear the Captain disparage "Cutz" (I believe he referred to it as "Scissors"). That song is awesome! Someday the world will learn to appreciate Kamasutra for the masterpiece that it is. | |

I love this album...it's so happy....it's when i feel Prince was at his happiest, before all the tragic events...
Brings back nice memories of Christmas for me.
It's one of my fav. Prince albums...gets better with time.... | |

You guys loved the bland-ass JOTY and the ridiculous Courtin' Time but didn't really care for Right Back Here In My Arms (which honestly should've been the first single from the album)?????? C;mon!

ok, usually i like your shows a lot, with my only complaint being that sometimes y'all give too high marks to some weak songs. but this time you took it too far. Jam of the Year?!?!?!?!? "I think this is brilliant. This song really exemplifies how skilled an arranger Prince is"
and then to top it off somebody says Slave is a worse first song than JotY and Sex in the Summer. huh? JotY has got to be the worst opening song of any album of his career. "I got a new Puerto Rican score. And she's doing it on the floor" Ugh.
then captain says the worst song on this disc is Right Back Here in My Arms.
thankfully somebody else asked if you'd heard the end of the disk. ha, ha, ha. things got a bit better after that. good insight about RBHiMA being a "lonely song".

^ Yes I always felt JOTY has always been massively overrated. I think I am the DJ (which it replaced) would have been a better opener personally.... Right Back Here In My Arms is a highlight IMO.

Hmm, I rarely hear "Jam of the Year" being praised so I don't see it as being massively overrated. Then again I am an unabashed Emanciapation lover. I even like "We Gets Up," "Mr. Happy" and "Da, Da, Da" so take my opinions for what they are worth.
For me the only slight flaw is that sometimes I find that disc two drags a little, particularly tracks three-six ("Soul Sanctuary," "Emale," "Curious Child" and "Dreamin' About You"). By the time "Joint to Joint" starts I am absolutely ready for something uptempo and lively. Oh, and I could do without the covers. I would have happily subbed those out in favour of some of the outtakes.
I would put Emancipation right up there with his best of the '80s. It is in my top five for certain. Fantastic album and massively underrated by many fans. | |

This is one of prince's albums I dont play very often , when I do its mainly the 2nd cd . This is not because I prefer ballads (as I LOVE 2 dance) but bcoz the majority of the tracks I like are on that one - one kiss at a time , soul sanctuary , emale , curious child , dreamin about u , joint 2 joint , lets have a baby . I'm often surprised by what prince tracks peep love/hate but it's o.k , I aint mad atcha! Different strokes. For me tho soul sanctuary is the best track , it's bliss . I also really love dreamin about u . As for cd's 1 & 3 my favourites are Somebodys Somebody , white mansion , icmulm , in this bed I scream , my computer , the love we make. Dont get me wrong , there are other tracks I dig. (sex in the summer, rbhima , get yo groove on , we gts up , face down , da,da,da ) but the above list gets the most play.

I agree with you that Emancipation is one of his five or six best albums and that it's very underrated by most fans. I guess there's just a LOT of music so a lot of people don't like some songs and don't listen to it often enough.
U even like the covers........
