Jehovahs & Prince

Whenever the Jehovahs show up at my door, I think, oh no, not again! I'm a little more intrigued about their believes since Prince is one, but I still don't let them in because I don't like preachers.
So here's my question: has anyone ever let the Jehovahs in because of Prince?

When I was younger I wouldn't have answered the door. Since then I've come to believe that they're just trying to bring their Word to others, so I hear them out. I'm Catholic, and I'll never convert just because Prince did, but I listen to what they have to say. As an adult I have a hard time ignoring someone who's just trying to do something positive.

Many of those in my area don't even know Prince and those that did weren't aware he's one of them.

Even if Prince himself will come to me as a Jehovahs preacher, I'll not open my door...

I respect their beliefs and I've always said Prince has the right to believe whatever he chooses (even more if that results in masterpieces like The Rainbow Children), but knocking at people's doors is an attack on intimacy, in my opinion. It's different when they go to talk to you on the streets; then I'd just say "no thank, you", and that's it. But if they knock at my door, I wouldn't be so kind.

Oh, and Prince being one of them doesn't change my attitude at all.

Is trying to convert someone to your way of thinking a positive thing?

Even if Prince was at my door knocking about being a Witness, I wouldn't answer it and if I did, I'd shut the door in his face. lol They don't attack back, they usually leave once that happens or if you act like "the devil got you". lol I'm glad no Witnesses live where I live at! lol

I think that's an odd statement. Isn't that what most people do, persuade others to their way of thinking, whether it be religious, political, health issues, changing the environment? Most people have some issue they want more in their camp about.

wink Although I love Prince his actions do not govern my personal decisions. I listen at my own free will. And it's cool.

Nope.

Furthermore: since Prince is a Jehovas Wittnes, they never came to my door again.... wink

I'll put it like this, even if Michael Jackson or his sisters or mother came to the door about being a Witness, I would shut the door in their face too. The few times I wouldn't wanna meet a celebrity is when they preach to me about being in the right religion or right political group. Forget it. evillol

i'm shocked at some of the responses- most of you like to put how you live on front street and expect that your actions and words are respected . But you'll be so quick to take "freedom of speech" away from a group of people because you don't appreciate their messge.

Why not say no thank you and feel good that at least someone cares enough about you to approach you with a positive message. The slamming of the door and such seems so hateful.

I don't celebrate Halloween but i'd never ever be rude to the kids who trick or treat and ring my bell- it's uncalled for- you know what they are there for- if you don't agree don't answer or just so no and move on. nod

And everyone on here is LYING when they say they wouldn't let Prince in- because you would even if it was just to question him about his choices. It's easy to band together and gang up on one group but what harm have JWs done in knocking at your door?

Save the angst for all the hate crimes that happen everyday......

timmy you should be really careful about what's in your heart- that's very hateful- very.

that's exactly how people who beat and lynch gays or blacks start off thinking- and then the door slam may escalate into a spit in the face or a punch- Why is it necessary??? Tolerance- just say no thank you and exit the situation-

I personnally don't think you would - you are just rolling BS off of your lips hmph!

How are they trying to take their freedom of speech away? They're just saying they don't wanna hear it. They're not saying there should be a law against it or that they would cause them any harm or cuss them out or anything. Slamming the door may be a little rude, but it's certainly not anything egregious like the way you're trying to make it out to be.

And to me it has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with their beliefs. I do respect them, but going to your own house to preach seems intolerable to me. As I said before, I'd say "no, thank you" if they try to talk to me in the street, but going to people's homes to preach, to sell, etc. should be forbidden.

No one has the right to disturb anyone, though I don't view anyone knocking on my door as disturbing me. Trying to get my attention, yes. However, there is a right and a wrong way to handle all situations. There are countless groups that knock on my door (from Girl Scouts, to Home Repair Techs, to the Civic League President, to Jehovah Witnesses, to other religious groups) NEVER have I slammed a door in anyone's face because that is rude, disrespectful and shows a lack of self control on the part of the door slammer. If you do not wish to speak with them don't open the door. How hard is it NOT to open the door? Look out the window, the peep hole, the mail slot, or whatever and do NOT open the door. I'm positive that Jehovah's Witnesses will shake the dust off their feet and move on because they tried to do what they've been commissioned to do.

But, should Prince knock on my door I will welcome the message, listen attentively and tell him we share the same beliefs. lol
