lenny or prince

Does anyone here think that Lenny Kravitz new CD is better than any of Prince's cd in the past 10 years. " the song come and get it" is way funkier than anything prince has done recently.

No. It's nowhere near The Rainbow Children or LotusFlow3r.

It's a very average album at best. I'm very disappointed by it to be honest. neutral

I'm glad you like it. I just can't help thinking there are too many fillers in this album. The good tracks are really great. The bad ones are really bad. Just my opinion obviously. wink

They're basically at the same place now, i.e. exploring their own style again and again with little (if any) innovation.

But Lenny Kravitz will never be Prince, neither in terms of originality, nor in terms of cultural impact, nor in influencing other musicians, nor in terms of the quantity of music recorded.

His new album is cool, though, it might grow on me with time smile

Like another poster said, I'm disappointed with Lenny's new one, I haven't listened to it much though, maybe it'll grow on me.

As for Prince, I can't really judge, The only albums I have of his, from the 2000s, are 3121 and 20Ten. I was disappointed with 20Ten at first too, especially as papers said it was his best album since SOTT.. doh!

I think B+W America is better than 20Ten but I don't know if it's better than any album Prince has had in the past 10 years.

Lenny is good I'll have to listen to the new CD but his music tends to be commerical in my view. One of the treats of listenting to Prince's music is the depth of the music and lyrics.

Thats something that reallly started to happen in his later CD's, when I first listened to Lenny he didnt really have a commercial style. I dont know what happened to him. I wanted to like the new CD, since he said it was the first CD he's ever done that he liked 100%, but I have to be in a very special mood to listen to it all the way thru.

Change it one more time..

I'd like Lenny a lot more if his lyrics were not so atrocious. His songs seem a little underbaked from time to time, too. But he has the occasional great tune.

That song has some of the worst lyrics in the history of music. And no, I'm not making any kind of joke. There are no mood lightening emoticons included with this comment. The lyrics to that song would be laughable to a Jr High poetry class.

I totally agree with NDRU that he's been relegated to the occasional great song category. Mostly because his lyrics have been on a steady decline since Circus.

You must be begging for abuse & troll claims even posting this question here. People here are Prince worshipers & pretty much would suck the perfume & make-up off of him if they could. There is no real reasoning with people here... lol But Lenny's new album is good though.....

Okay, so last night Lenny was on Tavis Smiley and when TS asked Lenny about the creative process, LK said that he has complete "creative control" (his exact words) over his music and he turns in to the record company what he wants and says "deal with it" (more of his exact words). But hey, as far as lyrics go, perhaps he's ahead of his time because meaningful lyrics have been falling by the wayside in music in general for the past 20 years right? Ask most kids now what they like about a song nowadays and I'd bet both kidneys they'd say "oh I like the beat"...everything is "beat" oriented now, Lenny just beat them to it I guess smile

Seriously when I first read this title, I thought it was going to be something like, "Which one of them is sexier?" type of question lol....

Lenny is a rocker who makes easy to digest rock music, there's no doubt that his sex appeal and good looks take him farther than his lyrics...

Trolls be gone!

Got a girl named Daisey
She almost drives me crazy(2x)
She rocks to the east, rocks to the west
She's the girl that I love best
Ever since Little Richard, a song does not have to have great lyrics in order to be good.

Thats's always been the case with Lenny. 'Mama Said'nand 'Are You Gonna...' probably have the best consistency of good material.

Simple and bad are two totally different concepts. Its no easy task to write good, simple lyrics - particularly those that fit perfectly with their intended musical accompaniment. Bad lyrics are just bad.

The first song on lenny's latest, the title track, is far funkier than anything Prince has done since probably the Black Album, almost a quarter century ago. And every one of Lenny's records sounds great while prince's have devolved into piles of sterile digitized shit. Prince ruled the school until 1990. That's when lenny kravitz took over.
