Your Top10 Prince's VERY WORST songs of the 90's

Yes, It's the sequel,

but PLEASE NOTE: this is not a thread about ALL the random/average songs that he released during the 90's (there are PLENTY). This is about listing the 10 VERY WORST Prince songs of the 90's (embarrassing/unlistenable/awful), in other words, the 10 songs that, in your opinion, were Prince's nadir from GB to Rave (including the 90's B-Sides, the 90's songs off Crystal Ball, Truth, Kamasutra, Vault and New Power Soul, but not the rest of the NPG albums or the unreleased songs of the 90's)

For example, I think that Rave is full of pedestrian/average songs, but nothing on that album is AWFUL. On the other hand, New World is an AWFUL song. I want a tight list, people:

my list:

chronological order

1.Graffiti Bridge

2.Jughead

3.Loose!

4.I Rock, Therefore I Am

5.We Gets Up

6.New World

7.She Gave Her Angels

8.Freaks on This Side

9.Shoo-Bee-Doo

10.Fascination

Jeez where do I start.

This one is a much harder list to compile. There is just so much to choose from. This is going knee deep in it. *Ughh* It is almost inhumane to ask this of anyone. lol

I'll make a list.

Impossible. This is the period where I disliked more songs on a CD than I liked. I am at 10 by the time I reach the Symbol CD. Can't Play. neutral

In regards to Prince I'm a fan, In regards to music I'm a fanatic!!

Gett Off (for me this is by far Prince's worst single, I've always strongly disliked it and I always will)

Walk Don't Walk (pap)

Arrogance/The Flow (Prince trying much too hard to be tough)

Solo (a noble attempt at trying something completely different but as a song it does not work)

Push It Up (crap)

Freaks on This Side (crap)

(I Like) Funky Music (crap)

Undisputed (this song kind of started a trend of bad songs where Prince brags about how great he is)

Everyday is a Winding Road (not sure if covers should count but this is terrible)

Baby Knows (bland, pedestrian, boring)

Yikes, I forgot about those terrible maxi singles from the early '90s. Truly some awful stuff on some of them.

Yes, do it smile, and good list, btw

but I have always wondered why some orgers hate the (in many was classic) 90-93 era even more than the crappy 97-99 years. The original NPG era had weak songs, yes, but, beyond Jughead, I can't find anything as bad as Shoo-Bee-Doo, Freaks or New World...

I would guess that expectations were much higher circa '90-'93 than they were circa '97-'99. I think a lot of fans felt that Prince still had the magic of the '80s but he was wasting it by chasing trends and trying to get a hit. By the end of the '90s that magic was gone.

To go back to the Paul Stanley quote from an earlier thread the late '90s era was probably the best music that Prince was capable of creating at that time but the early '90s era was Prince pissing away his talent while desperately trying to be popular.

1)We Gets Up

2) Eye Rock,Therefore I Am

3) New Power Generation---the Purple Rain movie opens with the powerful, relentless "Let's Go Crazy".For the sequel,he opens it with this lame R&B track?!

4)Jughead

5) The Sacrifice Of Victor---there's a good message here, but the song is so overproduced and chaotic,it's hard to understand what he's talking about."Three Chains O Gold" should have been the final song on this album.

6)P Control---yeah,I said it lol I know alot of fans love this song but I think it's embarassing.Prince trying to be "hard"...lol...I can't believe he removed the brilliant "Days Of Wild" from this album. That song is his most convincing rap number. On 'P Control',he's trying too hard.

7)Animal Kingdom

8)Push It Up

9)Da Da Da

10)Face Down---I'm not a huge fan of Disc three of Emancipation. The hip-hop-sounding tracks are the worst.

...

Dude, the bass alone saves "What's My Name!"

Technically "Cloreen Bacon Skin" is an '80s track.

For me the chaotic nature of "The Sacrifice of Victor" is what makes the song great. Plus I love the Honrneadz! Eric Leeds (occasionally aided and abetted by Atlanta Bliss) did some great stuff with Prince but the Hornheadz were my favourite horn section he ever worked with. So much better than the horn sections he has had over the last ten years.

Good point. But I'm a HUGE 91-95 fan. Jughead is the only song I skip from that era, lol

omg! I forgot about that turd! So I stand corrected: there's at least one AWFUL song on Rave... dead

Poom Poom could easily be another awful song but is redeemed by that wicked/kick-ass bass...

I keep saying this but if you people insist on slagging off "We Gets Up" I will have no option but to come wreck shop in yo neighbourhood. razz

"I Rock, Therefore I Am" isn't that bad. It's agreeable album filler.

Lastly, "Damned if I Do" is a great track! Anytime Prince incorporates a foreign language into a track I am all for it. Plus those spicy latin rhythms? What's not to like?
