Since it's not inclusive of protege/productions, this is kinda off, but here's 10:

Sister

Sexuality

Ronnie Talk 2 Russia

Automatic

Lady Cab Driver

Condition Of The Heart

Girls & Boys

New Position

Life Can Be So Nice

Le Grind

I mean, what; you could literally pick any 10, but these are personal favs, and I'd rather add them than the same ol' IIWYGF, Kiss, 17 Days etc, etc, even if they are fucking awesome too.

chronoligal order

1.Dirty Mind (pure electro/funk/new wave perfection)

2.Head (probably his best funk song)

3.1999 (hymn)

4.Little Red Corvette (his best new wave/FM pop song)

5.DMSR (MPLS...the bible)

6.When Doves Cry (his peak)

7.Purple Rain (rock for the 80's)

8.Kiss (his trademark sound)

9.SOTT (just one of his very best lyrics-productions)

In Order:

  1. Sometimes It Snows In April
  2. Sign O The Times
  3. Purple Rain
  4. All The Critics Love U In New York
  5. Controversy
  6. When Doves Cry
  7. Mountains
  8. The Beautiful Ones
  9. Under The Cherry Moon
  10. Lady Cab Driver

I'm guessing there's no real surprises here, except maybe 4&9..

Also, it's shameful how few times 'Sometimes It Snows In April' comes up. No wonder people here hate everything post-Lovesexy.. they can't appreciate deep lyrics or serious, not-funky music.

Edit: Forgot about Lady Cab Driver.. it bumps Ballad of Dorothy Parker down to #11.

Given your list and that Dirty Mind is your favorite album, I'm not surprised you don't agree. I am surprised, though, that my #1 pick shocked you, and nobody elses did. Other people list songs like I Wish U Heaven, Cindy C, Le Grind and Ronnie Talk To Russia, and Sometimes It Snows In April is shocking?? Wow!

MadamGoodnight

My head hurts! So many to name from this decade. I know, I know, I couldn't do it. I had to make 3 lists of 10. Too much great material there. My favorites. Maybe I will try to narrow it down after the three lists of ten, but I had to leave out stuff to even get to this. Oh well. Sorry. wink

In no particular oder:

1) Head

2) Uptown

3) When 2 R In Love

4) Scandalous

5) D.M.S.R.

6) Automatic

7) Do Me Baby

8) Anotherloverholenyohead

9) Let's Pretend We're Married

10) Controversy

1) Lady Cab Driver

2) If I Was Your Girlfriend

3) Private Joy

4) Let's Work

5) International Lover

6) She's Always In My Hair

7) Pop Life

8) Erotic City

9) Housequake

10) Hot Thing

1) Adore

2) Irresistible Bitch

3) When U Were Mine

4) How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore

5) 1999

6) The Beautiful Ones

7) Dirty Mind

8) 17 Days

9) Feel U Up

10) Little Red Corvette

Cindy C and LeGrind are good choices

Heaven or ROnnie as number 1 is shocking too, but at least they're not a boring, The Revolution bullshit folk ballad evillol
