Cool list to see. It's interesting that there was a period of about 2 years where I loved every performance.

Btw, you spelled Tavis Smiley wrong, but that's ok, I knew what you meant. wink

Overall, I've seen about 3/4 of the performances, so I've got some searching to do.

Thanks everyone who has voted so far. Response has been good! If you have voted, and don't mind revealing what you chose, don't be afraid to let us know in this thread why you chose what you chose. Was it the performance itself? the rendition/interpretation of the track live? the band? a defining moment that made you a fan?

We'd love to include some of these sort of stories in our show - it'll give us more to talk about when we do the countdown!

Keep 'dem votes coming!

Oh, and please share the link with any other non-org Prince fans you may know. We want to make this as comprehensive as possible!

I voted for about 10 performances.

Endorphinmachine on French TV is one of the best with all the candles... That rocks.

I started getting into Prince late 93 early 94 so this is one is etched in my memory.

Get Wild on TOTP was great as well, he just didn't give a f*** !

His F***WB period is the best smile

I voted for a few, among which were the Count The Days/Days Of Wild on The White Room. I love that performance, the NPG kicked arse that night, all with Prince in his full Tora Tora headgear....mental. I remember the presenter Mark Radcliffe saying something like.. "Here he is, and he has his beekeepers helmet on, it's The NPG and Tora Tora!"

Classic.

Prince and the NPG actually played a 40 min set that night but only two tracks were broadcast.

Another great one is the Spanish TV Septimo performance, and i'm talking about "Motherless Child." Prince in thick make up, crazy wooly jumper thing and his purple symbol guitar ripping through some brilliant solos, great track, great solos. The rest of the show was ok, but after Motherless Child it was pretty much Larry G and all that tackle.

There is some great stuff in the list, I could chat about them all night, but I won't lol

Peach & Black, you guys rock!

I voted for the Superbowl halftime performance solely because I have been a fan since IWBYL was released as a single. As everyone knows, it's not always easy being a Prince fan. Whether he does something controversial or pisses off his fans with His Royal Antics, most non-fans usually have plenty of negative comments about most of his ventures.

Having said that, after the Superbowl performance, I was able to announce proudly to everyone I know: My man did it LIVE, in heels, in the rain, and no matter what you think about him, you cannot deny that he is the greatest live performer of this generation. After all the sniveling about his being gay, assless pants, rib removal, etc., the whole world could do nothing but recognize his brilliance.

The music did the talking that day. That's why I've been a Prince fan this long.

You learn alot about yourself looking at all of them listed like that. I loved pre PR stuff, went from 89 SNL until 98 Vibe before i liked a performance, hated the 2005 NAACP medley and loved the both Legrand performances.

You can vote for more than one appearance, it's just you can only do the survey once... hope that makes sense!

Wish I could vote--but I haven't seen enough to participate! I do remember being blown away in the 80s by Prince's live performances at the Grammy and Golden Globe awards in the 1980s... I haven't seen them since then, but I was equally blown away by his Superbowl performance...which made my son a fan. lol

Don't feel left out - you can still vote even if you haven't seen a lot of them. Vote based on the ones you have seen. Most of the rarer ones are rare for a reason - a lot of those Rave-era lip-synched "Greatest Romance" performances aren't exactly essential viewing lol

was sorta thinking that myself as I voted, Baby I´m a Star has incredible energy, Septimo is very emotional, I am really curious what the results will be...

Got my vote in! thumbs up!

Lotsa great choices!

1987 MTV Awards

1989 SNL Electric Chair

2004 Hall Of Fame

2006 SNL FURY

2007 Superbowl (press conference too!)

One that I couldn't vote in was the 1991 MTV Awards GETT OFF

dispite the cool performance and spectacle of the whole thing.

I was let down pretty bad when he didn't really lay in to an

amazing guitar solo near the end. He as holding on to that last

note on the guitar and I was nearly frothing at the mouth ready

for him to blaze in to a rip roaring solo and show everyone watching

how it's really done ....and instead he goes in to the funky little breakdown.

Which was good and funky and all. I liked it, but I don't know I really

thought he was heading for some extra laps on that yellow cloud shrug

It was great for me too seeing a bunch on the list that I was actually at here in NY!

Can't wait for the results/show!

cool idea. here are a few:

1. 1985 American Music Awards Purple Rain. It was such an iconic performance. Going falsetto on "I never want to be your weekend lover" brought tingles to the back of the neck. Throughout I love the intense facial expressions & vocals, like on the "I could never steal you from another" line. And the screech on "i know times have changed" was awesome. I'm not sure if I watched it when it first aired, but seeing it over the years has been really cool.

2. Musicology special where he played the guitar medley that included ICNTTPOM & Sweet Thing.

It was a great year to be a fan of Prince's music. He had cool performances at the Grammys, Leno, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Tavis Smiley that year. I voted for those performances, too (in total, I voted for about 15 or so). The Musicology special was great because he seemed so relaxed and was interacting with the audience great. Also, the choice of some of songs was cool. My favorite was ICNTTPOM & Sweet Thing back to back. The "remember that from high school?" line, followed up with "this is what i remember from high school" (or something like that), was great. 2004 was all about Prince's music. I caught most/all of the performances when they first aired, so it was exciting because you really didn't know how it would go... and then it went great.
