Terrible Beginnings, Great Endings

Prince has to hold the record for number of songs that start out terrible and end great (if you can make it that far)

We Gets Up

Damned if Eye Do

The Flow

Gold

Compassion

When U Love Somebody

what U think?

Even the best of his songs get better with each verse. Sometimes they change into something completely different than what they started as, like Love 2 the 9's, Play in the Sunshine, Mountains, Glam Slam...

It's part of why I give all his songs a chance, even the "horrible" ones.

I really don't like when Prince does those turnaround/vegas-y endings to tracks more recently - it's like he can't think of any where to go with it after a couple of verses so he notches it up and goes all glitzy. It's super cheesy.

true it can't save a bad song such as When U Love Somebody just to add a cool jam at the end

But sometimes the actual song gets better. Compassion, IMO gets way better without changing the essence of the song.

Actually this ones the opposite of the thread post, from my view. It started off well, and ended terribly, I still love this song, but I can skip the last few minutes

In matter of fact, I prefer a song to just be strong, without to many changes/irregulitiries.

yes, I guess that one just falls into the category of "changes to something completely different" but you are right, I don't like the end better than the beginning either.

Gold starts out well, and ends well in my opinion. In fact, the beginning was what got me hooked on that song.

Label me crazy, but I like everything about Compassion. When I picked up the newspaper that day, and put the disc in the cdplayer, I almost ran over a bicyclist out of excitement.

True story !
