My Opinion... He needs to stop listening to us!

It's my humble opinion that as a fan I shoiuld not be giving advice or my thoughts taken to seriously about such an ICON as Prince.

It's nice that he looks occasionally at this postboard... but truth.. we are a scattered bunch and nipping at his heels should be seen as just suggestions.. He should always do what feels right to him BECAUSE it had led him to this great place in his life now.... By following other's "light" he just might lose his own...

and we as his fans... has been following his... And in in the process we all could end up Discumbobulated...

So be careful weeding out the true jewelsfrom the pig's ears dressed up to look like jewels..

I agree. The best thing for anyone to do is what makes them happy. Without concern of what others think.

Most of the time I agree that he should follow his muse and not listen to us. Could U imagine if he had listened to "fans" in the 80's, we probably would never have half the stuff that he did...On the same note, he had people in his circle that challenged him musically and mentally...Now I think that his inner circle doesn't offer him the same challenges or inspiration to take him to new levels. Maybe their more like hired musicians than peers.

If people keep buying, and keep seeing him live it doesnt matter what opinion a few people have in a world that contains a few billion people.

That was my very first reaction as well when I saw this thread title. Besides, the OP sounds like he's got his kneepads shined up, on, and ready to service! Sheesh!

His choice in songs during his performances align too similarlly with the suggestions from his fan base.... Anyone else noticed?

Isn't it a two way street?

As any artist, P gets inspired by so many things, I assume, among others by his fans.

His inspiration channeles in his music, that provides the inspiration for us to be his fans.

It's up to him how he would channel anything into music. However, I don't think he lives on an island, excluding himself from any information.

And fans do ventilate by sites like these, however, I don't think fan sites are his only information of what fans want. And I doubt if it is leading in his decisions.

If P does acts upon his fans needs and wishes, I think that is great, because he hasn't been very respectful of his fans throughout his career. And his faithful fanbase is the biggest PR machine he has...aka...buying his records and selling his music to others because they are so inspired by him. I know I did inpsire a whole lot of people to listen to P music beyond Purple Rain, Kiss and Diamond & Pearls...

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I think it's always been a compromise with him: whatever some fans suggest he might've went along with it but added in his own two cents. I don't think he's totally dictated to by his fans. He is a control nut also, we must remember. lol

I don't think it would be appropriate for me to reply to your post, because I have no business offering my opinion on such matters. So I will not point out the irony in your telling Prince not to listen to your advice.

Revolutionary

I really think the bottom line is Prince has a black belt in knowing how to keep his fans mystified and wanting more. That is definitely a component to many things that are decided and carried out- or not carried out.

Not against what ur saying, but honestly, i dont think our opinions on his music matter, much to him anyways. He probably thinks "They've supported me this far, I'll do as i please, & they'll go with it."

P has found many musical inspirations, but when it comes down to it Prince is Prince, he's gonna make the kinda music he feels suits him for the moment. He claims he's not a "yes man" & i belive him to some point, but i believe even if his friends say that a song aint funky, but he's set on that song, that he'll release it anyways. Hasnt that been his attitude from the beginning? that his music is his. No one's opinion on his music is greater than his, thus the whole no one can critique his music thing

P probably just likes to see what we like the most, not what we think can be done or changed, to improve his career, he's Prince enough said cool

The oddest thing is if he WASN'T listening to "us", someone would've made a thread saying:

"Prince SHOULD listen to us!"

lol lol lol

Give it a month, & there will be a thread with that title. No 2 ppl on here agree all the time, & this thread kinda kills the whole idea/point of the org, in some ways. we came here to appluad or rant about P, if he's visited the site more than a few times, theres gotta be some pleasure there

this thread reminds me of the threads that start out with "Dear Prince....."

as if he ever comes in here eek eek

I do think that he listens to his band members advice or ideas though. Renato, Morris, etc. have been with him a while now.

If there was a website devoted specifically to me, with hundreds of people daily commenting about everything I do, I would certainly visit that site pretty regularly. Even if Prince claims he never comes on here, I bet he does. He might look at the site when he's alone and not tell anyone about it, the way some people look at porn. Whether he actually "listens to us" is another question.

I actually kind of doubt that he does listen to the fans as to what to do with his career or his personal life ...

I don't think he listens to the fans either. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if, when he puts out a new album or does a show that he thinks was particularly good, he might come on here hoping to find some praise and affirmation. I imagine he shuts his computer down after reading a few critical posts (even if they are well-deserved). But who knows.

I'd say he looks at it sporadically at best. Men like him don't waste much time doing mundane things like shopping, laundry or spending excess time surfing the net.
