Prince vs. Satan

As a Kid, I used to always hear that Prince was a devil worshipper. I heard this so much that I was kinda scared to listen to his music as a kid. Eventually, I became curious & started listening for myself & I never heard any of this so called "Satanic" stuff that I was always told [hidden messeges, etc]. PLEASE let me know where the origin of this 'Satanic' myth was invented....

I've listened throughly to early Prince music & I've never really heard anything I would find Demonic in any way. SEXY talk, yes ! evil talk, NO!

This danish tabloid article from 1993/94(??) was in Denmark spreading the false rumour about AIDS - that headline: "Prince is sick",

and the danish tabloid Se & Hør magazine's "Doctor Münster" makes the diagnosis, "it could be AIDS".

He makes the diagnosis only by looking at the pic - of Prince dressed in yellow. What a silly doctor, many believed him back then,

I was in a record store in Copenhagen, and I was told this as a fact: Prince had AIDS. I was terrified for some time,

thanks... this was a vicious rumour only..... sad

that "story" from Doctor Münster was scary, what an asshole to create a rumour like that.....

mad lol

This is totally false! I have no idea where you heard this from. Prince has many references to God in his music. Go check out my thread about Prince and God, all the explanation is there.

I'll shock you with my lips.

Prince vs. Santa?

oh wait, Prince vs. Satan? I remember that fight well. Prince just picked up his guitar and played...

"The chord strikes, the devil no like, so he runs to his evil car"

yes, Satan ran to his evil car.

I giggle when I read the "There're no black-faced icons of Yahweh or Lucifer in his house" line from his RollingStones interview from 1985.

It seems this subject triggers a lot of hostility in this neck of the wood for some reason. I don't believe the illuminati argument either, but as far as his music was concerned, I've lately realized how similar Prince was to Marvin Gaye in the sense that both seemed conflicted when it comes to the whole "Sex Vs Church" issue.

I remember an old poster who said that he felt that Prince' pronounced religious overtones in the Purple Rain tour were overcompensating for his sexual music. Reading his post and remembering Prince' quote from BET last year kinda put things into perspective for me, of course he(Prince) could mean anything lol

The Satanic Message is just some recycle jibbber-jabber that goes all the way back to Robert Johnson supposedly selling his soul to become a better guitar player.

It actually, goes back farther than that to the Middle Ages when the Tri-Chord was banned because it was thought to conjure up the Devil!

So, saying such & such musician is a Devil Worshipper is just lazy and stupid.

Now, people are saying artists like Jay-Z and Lady Gaga are Satanic Devil Worshippers. The difference between now and back then is any goof with a blog and a youtube account thinks they've "cracked the code", and they get thousands and thousands of morons to agree with them!

JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I heard this stuff on TV [religious shows] & from family members as a kid. I started listening to Prince in my teenage years & I totally expected to hear some real crazy stuff! I remember buying '1999' last of all the albums he out up until 'Emancipation' because I heard it was one of the main ones with satanic shit on it. I listened cautiously, and never heard shit! All I heard was a friggin' awesome album!

Annie Christian, all of Dirty Mind and 1999, the Darling Nikki scene in Purple Rain, the Black Album, I can see where the rumors started, but I'd blame it on Spooky Electric if anyone. Along with the NPG Music Club material. Fuck those albums.

Which proves that you should never just listen to what others say but investigate yourself and then decide.

Telll me though. When you chose 1999, what were you expecting to hear, based on your preconceived perceptions?

Honestly, probably something similar to 'TRC', but anti-God [even that monster voice he uses on that album too]. Um, maybe a quija board in the album cover.Silly stuff like that.....uh, & a bunch of backwards messeges tell you to kill people, rape animals, etc. That was in my imagination....

Prince was all about sex in his early years. He also was all about God the way he still is, but christian false prophets ignored this because it did fit their agenda to have one more popstar as a devil worshipper.

This, though, is an all-american myth. In France, in 1985, prince was just cool or uncool, no satanic bullshit.

People in this country have an obsession with things that are supposedly going to "ruin society" and it's always amazed me that, year after year, people get blindly believe whatever the local news or church tells them and they run with it. I remember when the first Harry Potter movie came out and all the local churches wouldn't shut up about how it's going to ruin the children and how it was evil in disguise.

well..... I wouldn't say that prince was ever a "devil-worshipper" per se. Didn't see any pentagrams, goat's heads, or upside down crosses anywhere. However, in the early years, when the music was still awesome, there was plenty of wild, hedonistic, sexual things going on all over the place, one solid example is the Lisa/Jill Jones thing in the 1999 video, hanging all over each other and looking all hot and lusty. The next year it was "Wendy, is the water warm enough?" All the way through the Gett Off vid with the Caligula orgy thing going on. It may have peaked with Prince getting fake butt-humped by the Game Boyz, I'm not sure (never want to see that gif again, thank you!)

Just because he talked a lot about God during the same period doesn't mean he was doing anything good for Christianity. Like I said, the music was fantastic, but between prince and madonna, I feel they did incredible damage to the soul of american youth in the 80s. And I think Prince has spent the last 15 years or so trying to undo the damage. Unfortunately, as a Jehovah's Witness he's still distorting the Word of God to this day, only now it's much sneakier and without the obvious red flags (i.e., assless pants)

I think the backward messaging thing dates back to Alisteir Crowley who was a renowned satanist who some called the ant-christ.

In his teachings he recommended playing music backwards, particularly christian songs, as it would provoke a trance like state.

Prince was targeted as being a satanist by christians for the backward message at the end of Darling Nikki.

I used to be a bible basher and was told to throw away my much beloved Prince tape, which I sadly did sad

After a year in non-Prince wilderness where no music on earth matched it, I started actually thinking for myself instead of just accepting the church's excrement. So I bought another Prince tape, then another, and another, and 20 years later a rock-solid fan! smile

Actually it had some kind of logic back then, the last heritage of the hippie ideology: "fight bigotry, free your mind and body", etc., at the time it still meant something to be a rebel and to want the world to change. Then suddenly things evolved but no one could expect what happened in the next 20 years, when sex suddenly became the must in western societies, a leisure amongst other, but the best leiseure nonetheless, with people fucking each other as if they were mere products (fast food) and raving about how cool they are because they fuck all around.

Today you're a scandalous rebel if u talk about having sex only when u're in love or the possible psychological damages of a soulless sexual life... Who'd have thought that back in 1984?
