I watched UTCM many times since 86'....

and this is the first time (April 2011) that I noticed following.

In Tricky & Christopher's room, there are some vinyls: one from Sam Cook (this one was always seen) but the maxi single Sister Fate from Sheila E. (behind Christopher's bed) !!!!!

eek lol

UTCM: Very cool and funny too.

Makes you wanna cringe once in a while, but... nevermind.

I still heart the movie.

... sometimes I sit back and SMDH at how late I was on movies like Purple Rain, UTCM and Graffiti Bridge. I so WISH I was a fan of P's music back then, just to know other fans / enthusiasts of P's musical gifts. Now, I'm a fan yeah but, I always sit there like a bump on a log when I watch old footage and listen to the fans talk about it.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Last time I watched it was when I was on business trip in Nice, had the dvd in my PC. Funny to visit some of the spots from the movie, like the flower market and the gate between the boulevard and the old city (where P drives through with his car). I still enjoy UTCM, not for it's "acting", but for the atmospere and the sillyness of it.

I love that Sister Fate maxi. In 85 I was backstage at a RUN DMC gig and was suprised when Jam Master Jay was spinning the b-side "Save the people". It sounded great over a big sound system.

Back in the day we had a dollar theater in our neighborhood, the Spring Valley Twin Cinema. Always a double feature, only $1 for both flicks.

Saw double features of Beat Street/Breakin', Breakin' 2/Krush Groove...stuff like that.

When UTCM flopped, it ended up at the Twin Cinema after being out for only two weeks...double feature: Purple Rain/UTCM. FOR SIX STRAIGHT WEEKS!

We went damn near everyday. Get there at noon and watch both, head home for dinner, etc, back to the theater at 8pm for another dose.

Summer of 86...fuckin awesome!!!!!

Eye will watch it any time I like as I have the DVD, but I love this movie. I wasn't following Prince when it came out in 86, but first saw it in 93 and loved it then. Its not as good as Purple Rain, but a enjoyable camp novelty. It has some interesting dialoge and Prince's narcissism sells itself. Its a lot of one off sharp lines like "Maybe yo would breathe a little better if yo loosened yo chastity belt" and the rest (ie: yo sat up all night memorising that line) and the ultra campo scenes between Christopher and Tricky (Theres some down lo shit goin on there, I am sure Jerome in real life is gay). I love it and wtach it about twice a year for the joy, I will just have a Prince movie night, love Purple Rain, endure this and get half way thru Graffiti Bridge and say enuff already.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
