underrated: Sex The 80’s Are Over And The Time Has Come 4 Monogamy And Trust

Now this is a song that is underrated. It NEVER gets mentioned. This is the B-side to The Scandalous Sex Suite. Hell, it's so underrated it didn't even get a placement on The Hits/The B-Sides lol. Although the beat is monotonous, it's vibe is like the musical cousin to Shockadelica.

Someone on AMP had a portion of the lyric as his signature way back when :" I'll climb a thousand trees if I have ta..but baby, one of us are gonna end up on our knees." Ha.

I never gave this song a chance back when it cae out because it seemd like a throwaway and uninspired to me back then. Hell, I pklayed it once or twice and never played it again ince until a few weeks ago it came on my ipod shuffle. I let it play and thought to myself at the beginning of the song.."self..what IS this one?" I looked and sho nuff it was Sex..The 80's Are Over....

I let it play and was happy to listen to a late 80's Prince be his more repsonsible freak nasty come out.

He says "Yo fellas..peep this out" lol

Has that dark sound crunch elements of Big Tall Wall in it. Thats also reminiscent of Witness...

Lyrically, I've thought it to be a bit similar to La La He He He. They don't sound the same musically though. Anyway, I agree. It's on of my favorite B-sides.

time flies.

Great track, and didn't it kinda sound like the lyrics too - "the 80s are over....." this track sounded like one last farwell to the old Camille/1999/sparse drum machine version of Prince. smile

I really liked it when it came out but I probably haven't heard it in 15 plus years and I don't feel particularly deprived.

agree that it's underrated. love this tune for it's quirkiness and awesome vocal delivery, for me it's one of those 'only prince would do' songs.

oh yeah, the only part that makes me cringe is the 'sex, one lover, sex two lovers, death' part... pretty simple approach to the 80's aids epidemic...

other than that it's good shit.

I guess that's true, especially considering Prince's fondness for putting it about.

I always thought that Justin must have heard this when he did Ladies say .... Blah blah in "Señorita" - banging track.
SEX is masterful and another glorious hidden gem in the Royal Jewels. I feel like Prince.org is a ghost town at the moment but every now and then someone puts up a good post and reminds how great he is!

The rehearsal is great, in fact that whole release is fantastic.

This song has Camille running loose! Has that kind of murky funk and visual lyrics that are classic Prince.

(For all the haters who are gonna say "this isn't an official Camille track" just go ahead and stuff it. You know what I mean and no one is impressed by your run of the mill Prince knowledge)

"Prince doesn't have verbal diarrhea, he has studio diarrhea...." Allen Leeds
