My children were 10 and 8 back then. Cap'n Crunch was already regularly stocked at my house, so I thought it was cool that Prince ate it, too. I've never tried Soy Milk and wasn't going to because of a Prince song. rolleyes

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Sure aint. I used to work at a holistic grocery store and the Dr. that owned it made it a point to inform the workers and the customers that soy milk is terrible for you. I wish I had the studies, but I threw those papers away a long time ago. The heck wit' it. wink

I would simply ask, If milk is poison, then what the heck am I doing walking around? I've been drinking it since I was a kid - and am one of the healthiest people you'll meet. I'm 50 years old and have absolutely no - and I mean no - health issues of any kind. Hell, I haven't even had a cavity since I was 13.

And my B-12 levels are great - which is why I do not have the tendency toward irrational anger that characterizes the posts of so many militant vegetarians.

The great thing about the veggies inhaling soy all the time, though, is that the chances are lower that they'll actually be able to reproduce.

Would you be willing to share your BMI? Personal question I know, but worth asking.

You aren't getting any nutrients from that milk, whilst your body may have adapted somewhat to the point where it's not damaging you as much as it does to most people. But if you're using it as a primary source of calcium, you'll be calcium deficient at this point and a high risk of osteoporosis. That's easily avoided with REAL sources of calcium like spinach, kale, etc though. And of course, the high fat content will be putting strain on your heart, and you are ABSOLUTELY at a higher risk of various cancers that milk is KNOWN to aggravate. Doesn't mean you'll get them. But it's more likely you will.

As for the B12 issue, that's pretty funny. Records have proven that almost all people recorded as suffering from B12 deficiency are meat-eaters. And B12 is naturally synthesized by the bacteria found within the guts of both animals AND humans. So it's actually hilarious that pro-meat commenters suggest a deficiency in vegetarians or vegans due to the lack of B12 in plants. Where do you think the animals get THEIR B12 from that humans consume? Yep - from the same bacteria naturally occuring in both ours and their guts.

Whether some anger is irrational or not is entirely subjective. Therefore you cannot generalize. Being angry about the lies of the meat and dairy industry, the abuse of animals in both - most milk comes from forcefully impregnated cows who are then killed when the milk yield naturally lowers - is certainly not irrational. It's downright shameful that these industries act like that and people SHOULD be angry about it. I'm not down with apathy. I'm down with education by any means possible. Sometimes you gotta hammer it home.

As for the last remark - care to explain how there is a extremely high soy presence in the Chinese diet and yet they have 1/3 of the entire population of the planet? They ain't having ANY reproduction issues.

Shit, people have been drinking animal milk for thousands of years, there ain't nothin' wrong with it. Soy, though it's been around for a while, is a relatively new fad.

There are cultures whose entire diets are built around it, in fact.

Poor, unenlightened people. Too stupid to know they're drinking poison. sad

It made me want to try soy milk together with cereal for sure. I didn't really care for it to be honest. I told my mom to get me that stuff for a few times, but it wasn't as good as I had hoped for.

I've bought oat milk more recently and it's quite good with cereal (or muesli). The downside is that I might get a feeling that resembles diabetes / allergy if I have too much of that stuff. It's basically grain... on grain.

I've really learned to appreciate "Joint 2 Joint" over the years. I wish he'd still do something as zany once in a while. I'm going to put it on next!

ikr. bitchfight there should be a separate forum specifically meant for nonsense arguments that never end... because the people who partake are all too stubborn for their own good. or its all unproven and opinions.

like the politics & religion forum.

i dont like to argue very much, so to me, that place is hell. i went in there once when i got real bored.

never again. bored2

It's a quarter or so. Still a significant amount. Still enough to debunk that baseless "soy is bad for reproduction" line.

Me! headbang

And don't forget green eggs and ham. Love them green eggs, and whatever chemical they use to make them oh so grassy green! And don't forget raspberry sorbet, a 10-piece bucket of chicken, chocolate, butterscotch, dorritos, chicken grease on my toast(yum!), and any food without parents. I'm pretty sure those chickens were genetically altered orphans. At least they tasted that way.

The truth is, my taste buds only like what Prince sings about. Not to mention he's sang about crack and ecstacy a couple times. Now that was a weekend to remember, at least that's what my PO says.

... from time to time I have Cap' Cruch with regular milk. I used to drink soy and almond. My son is alergic to soy so I tend to buy what he can eat and keep the food or drinks he can't have out of the house. I always thought it was a funny line P wrote in 'Joint 2 Joint', though.

Good thread by the way my fellow orgerz thumbs up
