C-Note, Xplosion etc.

Again a request on how to obtain some harder to find. Legally. Is there any way to get hold of these two albums? I thank you.

Nope. They were never released officially on CD, only pirate copies, made from the mp3s - so the same sound quality.

There is no legal/official way to obtain these albums at present. The sites are dead, and they were never made available any other way.

If you go the bootleg route, skip Sabotage's Xpectation: it still bears the skip on Xotica that was present in the first download offered by the NPGMC. They were too lazy to search for the unglitched version but not so much to charge money for it.

There are good fan versions around. Do your homework.

I know someone who was about to pay a pretty penny for a "Chocolate Invasion - Very Rare Promo cd" on ebay recently, luckily i stopped them. There are copies of Xpectation and the others out there too.

These cd's might look pretty (and tempting), with the printed cd and jewel case art and all the hoopla, but they are fake, with the same shitty mp3 quality downloads burned to a disc and sugar shaken over them to make them look nice.

Don't be fooled, the same quality downloads can be found online for free.

And this is one instance where I'd say "Have it boys and girls!" with concerns to 'illegally' downloading officially released material.

Given that Prince a) hasn't bothered to release these in CD format or quality, and b) they're no longer available anywhere at all to purchase legally - I think it's perfectly acceptable for those who came late to the party to get them however they like, until such time that they become available officially. (*snort*)

yeahthat

I would add that I feel this way about ALL out-of-print material, by ANY artist. Same for movies or tv shows, if they are not in circulation but are available by "unofficial" means, then go the bootleg route and don't feel a bit sorry or ashamed...

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

www.---------- has got a great Prince collection. But you will have to pay a little. I guess it is sort of legal.

1) The reason we don't link to illegal downloads is not to be dickish, it's so Prince doesn't set the hounds on the .org and close it the fuck down.

2) That isn't "sort of legal", it's completely il-fucking-legal, since Prince doesn't get any of that revenue.

Sheesh.

I agree with you guys. If the artist are not gonna release concert dvds and such then what do they think the people who like the music are gonna do. They are going to buy boots. Just because they dont wanna make that money off of it then why stop music lovers from being able to ejoy it. Release it officialy or dont bitch.

Actually, that's not what this thread is about.

This is about albums that were released officially, but are no longer available by legal means (ie. only electronic copies exist and there's no official channel for downloading them).

That's a considerably different case to what you're talking about.

I'm getting a lot closer to caving in on this one because I love N.E.W.S so much and these albums were recorded during that same period and I believe they're in a similar style.

The irony is that my personal preference is to stay the heck away from illegal download sites, but if Prince won't make his official albums available any other way, then he's kinda the one inadvertantly encouraging me down that path...

..who knows where it could lead! wink

If that is the path that you should choose to follow, then it is one which will bring you Prince music beyond your dreams. Don't think of it as illegal, think of it as enriching your music collection with some of the most fantastic outtakes and live shows you will hear.

wink

I live in Cambodia. Downloading music from Peer-2-peers is legal here (there's even a TV channel broadcasting theater-filmed recordings of the last Hollywood movies lol ).

Anyway even if I wanted 2 buy legal things I couldn't: all u find in stores are pirate copies, and itunes and Amazon's downloading systems r blocked here (not by the government, by itunes and Amazon themselves) lol

And u guys r right: Prince IS encouraging use of P2P's anyway: think of the delirious AMOUNT of material that's out of print rolleyes

LOL. Glad i could entertain you all biggrin

There are very few pieces of Prince music i don't own. And my first option has always been legal means. And that's a moral decision i took upon myself. However, when these pieces of music were available, i wasn't in a financial position to buy them.

Now i am, i'm willing to buy, but they're not for sale. What's a boy to do?

And why is that?

I don't get these 'legality seizures' in a world where the very governments are abusing the citizens.

Do y'all think this way of acting/thinking makes you better persons?

Prince would never think it twice at the time of getting as much money from you as he could.

He recently charged the fans 77$ for virtually anything.

No.

It's just a personal preference - I prefer to pay for the music I enjoy (that's not to suggest that I think anyone else would or wouldn't, just clarifying my position).

If Prince ever made these albums available for sale again, I would buy them. Right now though, I'm just very grateful to have a means to access them.

I do object to people profiting off Prince's work through selling bootlegs, but I'm aware that the vocal majority make it clear here and elsewhere over and over that there are lots of good quality boots available for free.

I realise lots of people are of the opinion that Prince has no issue with ripping off fans and makes a grab for money at any opportunity. I respectfully disagree. I look at what I've outlaid for my tapes, CDs, DVDs, website membership fees, etc.. over the years and I still feel that what I've received overall in terms of the pleasure it gives me far outweighs what I paid for it.
