Would that constitute a blood transfusion?

Seriously though, I feel that Purple Rain lends itself to very deep interpretations if people choose to search for them, otherwise it can be an enchanting song fuelled by love and the complications that lie therein, or, as someone suggested, it can simply be an anthem of the time that now acts to bring back fond memories.

Conversely, this site doesn't lend itself at all well to sharing said deep intepretations and, while it's nice to learn of how Prince's music touches different people, I think what we've learned this month is that talk of things ranging from kundalini awakenings to divine bloodbaths are best discussed in more appropriate forums confused

"Calm the fuck down" = let me peddle my bigoted views without making me feel guilty about it. I will not do that.

"Political correctness" = some slightly dated phrase bigots try to hide behind to continue peddling their ignorant, inapproriate comments. What has politics got to do with offensive, prejudiced comments? It's human correctness, not political correctness.

I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with an opinion about baby blood. I disagree with that opinion myself. As I make clear above, I have a problem with religious intolerance and disrespecting spiritual/religious beliefs on a public forum in the context of some guy or girl saying something a bit odd about a song. And for everyone who stays silent here about the comments, or who supports the view that a religion is "fucked up" you help to create a society of prejudice and intolerance. And then no doubt you'll go and moan about how hateful the world is to anyone who will listen.

Now, I have a very full and busy life and, as such, shall get on with it. I've spent enough time around your hate.

Now that I have been enlightened, Purple Rain has now taken over my No 1 Prince song slot from PUSSY CONTROL, unless the original poster can convince me that this was a song about the virgin Mary's contractions.

Also, Prince may have heard the phrase 'purple rain' in the song 'Ventura Highway' by America. You can hear the phrase at 1:55 http://www.youtube.com/wa...KMA22Hd7J8

Long before America did 'Ventura Higway', Stevie Wonder (probably still 'Little Stevie Wonder') sang a tune called 'Purple Raindrops'.

Still I think none of them had anything to do. Prince had already settled for the colour purple (it was a color sort of vinculated to MN in other aspects) and he used it with the word 'rain' to picture some kind of 'water epiphany'.

Yes, but why should ANYONE start a thread about stupid beliefs and talking about them as if the rest of the world were idiots?

I find THAT much more offensive.

Isn't it ridiculous, childish, pointless, stupid, ignorant to write something like this?: When the guitar solo starts it's the blood of Jesus raining down. When prince starts to sing " oooh ooh ooh" it's the joy of cleansing as the actual waves of blood rush over you cleaning you of all sin...

That's fucking unbelievable.

Yes it was odd...but honestly that is kinda human nature...we all perceive things differently

Seems that way sometimes.

So much for this "free will" that I was "blessed" with.

You better fall in line or pay the price!

"Jesus" was a shepherd, right?

It all makes sense.

Bashing is just disrespectful to all those involved, the person bashing and the person or thing being bashed. Mocking gets the point out in a more fun manner.

"Bashing is a harsh, gratuitous, prejudicial attack on a person, group or subject"

I'm all for making fun of my beliefs and others, but we don't have to attack without thought or compassion for the other person's position.

As for a religion, if you don't like it, don't follow it. No need to bash it. Seems like a mean, selfish thing to do. shrug

But then again I live for the rule: If it's funny, then it's kewl with me.

How in the world can a comment like "Chritianity is fucked up" be extremely offesive, disrespectful and prejudiced??? Really: "Extremely"?

It follows a long tradition of critcism of religion that stems all the way from the Enlightenment period and before. Not a criticism of the persons involved or the faith people hold, but of the religion as an institutionalised and therefore potential authoritarian, even fascist, in practice.

I am personally offended by the view that people should be allowed to say the most outragious things and expect not to be critizised or ridiculed - because it offends their religion!

I tolerate everyone's religious beliefs just fine, thanks. Quit the sanctimonious babble. Religion should be made fun of as much as possible. Let's not put it on a pedestal because we're too afraid that if we make fun of it it'll hurt someone's feelings. I receive a lot of intolerance at my college for being an Atheist. Should I get all butt-hurt about it and say "HEY! You can't attack my beliefs!!" No, I shouldn't, because those are stupid expectations to place upon someone else. To put religion in a special bubble where it can not be made fun of or questioned is a pointless act. Like everything else in our life, it will be examined by those around us. We just have to learn to laugh at ourselves and find strength in our decisions, if we truly believe that they are right.

So don't call me a bigot, because I find that term to be waaay over the top for what's been happening in this thread.

I agree with the last sentence about laughing at ourselves and finding strength in our decisions.

Is it safe to assume that you believe nothing should be placed in a special bubble? Nothing is offlimits?

It's okay to make fun of all nationalities?

It's okay to make fun of all races?

It's okay to make fun of conditions which cause some to be mentally challenged?

It's okay to make fun of conditions which cause some to be physically challenged?

It's okay to make fun of diseases such as cancer, AIDS, etc?

It's okay to make fun of natural disasters?

It's okay to make fun of man-made disasters?

It's okay to make fun of sexual preferences?

It's okay to make fun of people's skin color?

It's okay to make fun of people's height or weight?

It's okay to make fun of people's age?

I don't do any of that. Not because I'm "afraid" to do so, but because I don't derive pleasure from it.

I believe everyone should be considerate and respectful of others, and most atheists share that belief. Imagine that, showing love for one another without any notion of being rewarded in Heaven!

Honestly, why would anyone want to intentionally hurt other people's feelings?

"Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

Depending on the circumstances, I would say yes to all.

No it's not okay to be insensitive or deliberately cruel but otherwise, why not laugh?

People joke and laugh about all the above daily do they not?

Why would anyone want to intentionally hurt other people's feelings? Because we as people, realize we can do so.

Why do we kill each other? Surely that intentionally hurts other's feelings?

You don't make the jokes, but are you going to say you've never laughed? (I think you do.)

Even the targets can enjoy jokes without feeling someone is intentionally hurting their feelings.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I believe Purple Rain is God's majesty (blood or sacrafice) raining down (covering) on us. As for the musical accompaniament, listening to the song touches all of us in this same way--understanding of God's love and the sacrafice of his only son as measure of his love. Even those who wouldn't admit it understand fully the subliminal message underscored by the music, and that is undeniable and why the song has a manificent place in music and world history. Prince is praying for salvation for all of us.
