Why would anyone make apologies for Prince. He has not done anything to you or anyone else on this board

No orger is going to get any part of a judgement.

Might I suggest grabbing a dictionary before you start in on the ignorance on this board.

http://i.word.com/idictionary/apologist

Main Entry: apol·o·gist
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈpä-lə-jist\
Function: noun
Date: 1640
: one who speaks or writes in defense of someone or something

There are some fools on the org who believe Prince can do no wrong. No matter how wrong he done did. Methinks you took the word a little too literal.

Prince would rather pay some pretty young thang to stand next to him than to pay for services rendered to provide himself the basic human necesseties. This guy is just tooo much! I love his music, but he deserves everything he is going through. He wants us to be understanding about his needs and desires, but yet he has NO consideration for the things people go through to provide him with his lavish lifestyle. He's a hard-headed egomaniac who will only wake up when the ish hits the fan.

Your Old Man being a lawyer does not make you one.

"The firm represented Prince in a New York case where a perfume company sued him for failing to promote "3121", which was billed as a "sexy scent" packaged in a purple box.

Its lawyers also worked on finalizing his divorce; on suits for concerts he canceled in Dublin and California; and when he sued over a rented Beverly Hills mansion."

The article goes on to say that they have received partial payment for their services, which even with the impossible notion you put forth that there is no written contract, is proof of a business transaction. Given that they are a law firm, care to venture a guess as to the nature of the business? Each of these represent a distinct and individual case. Each would require authorization from Prince to represent him in each matter as he was named defendant in each case. And dealing with EU law requires even more crossed T's and dotted I's. To think that a law firm would jump on a plane and run off to fight an international lawsuit, that is binding by the way, on a whim is absurd. A more likely scenario is they lost the case because Prince did not have a legal leg to stand on, and he got pissed and refused to pay.

Never said that it did. Just making the point that stranger things than what I put forward have happened in law and I've heard about a lot of 'em first hand.

Partial payment for WHAT services? Perhaps SOME of them and NOT others on a case-by-case basis? And again, never said there wasn't a written contract, the key word is the TERMS of the contract.

As for jumping on a plane, WHO SAYS that Prince's people were present at the Irish courthouse. I'm actually certain that they weren't there.

I would not be surprised at all if Prince has a strategy that will allow him to brush all of this off without paying a dime. Again, much crazier things have happened.

Has Prince asked you personally or via some other form of communication to "understand" his needs and desires? What are you saying here?

What do you mean "things people go through to provide him with his lavish lifestyle?" what "things" do you mean?

You are certain that Prince had no representation at the Irish trial? He was tried in abstention?

Really? This is what you belive? And they went to Dublin and participated in a trial without authorization because they felt like it? And the forms needed to act as a legal represtation with binding solutions were then forged by them? And then they had the testicular fortitude to send Prince a bill for it? Come on, surley you jest.

As far as Princes strategy for brushing off his leagal obligations, don't bet your bottom dollar on that. Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler are not star struck ambulance chasers. This is a wallstreet contractual specialist lawfirm. They are not going to be bested in legal manuvers by Prince.

Now if the battlefield is a stage, and the weapon a guitar....

I'm not saying any strategy he may have will work, I'm just saying I think he may have one.

And I am sure that I read, at the time, that Prince's lawyers were not present at the Irish courthouse. I could be wrong. And even if they were - if there isn't any evidence that he specifically requested them to represent THIS particular case for him, he could still contest it.

That isn't even what I said. confuse

You're saying no lawyer would work for someone without a contract. I'm saying it's not the contract that's important - but the TERMS of the contract.

It's likely Prince had a contract with these lawyers. It's also likely that the contract didn't specifically state that they represent him for any and every lawsuit against him.

I'm saying that Prince COULD claim that he never told them to represent him in the lawsuit against MCD. Even if he did. Because there may not be any written evidence that states that. Like I said though, I'm just speculating, but what's clear is that there's more to this than meets the eye. Prince ain't stupid, and he probably has a plan.

Another thing is that Prince didn't have a contract with Desmond in the first place. The only reason he was found liable was because a judge (in Ireland) made that call at his own discretion. Not every judge would do that.

If there's one thing I know about law, it's that there's a billion loopholes and ways around things. That's why so many lawsuits drag out for years, and also why every day, people who are guilty of crimes don't get convicted for them. It's entirely possible that with the RIGHT strategy, Prince can avoid paying anyone any money whatsoever. And you can bet Prince is thinking about that.

You are not Prince's battered wife. Just stop!!!! disbelief

I don't know how else to say it. Go back, read the article again. It says they represented him in several cases. Including a divorce (contract law), after he trashed someones house (contract law) and a CANCELED CONCERT IN DUBLIN!!!! (The very issue we are talking about). So the represented him, but were not present, or rather they were present, but not authorized to represent him? This trial was in Ireland, not Paisley Park.

Now lets say that your "Bizarro World" strategy plays out. The fact is still Prince was served by a legal EU court that has jurisdiction as the event was to take place in Europe. He failed to show up and there was a trial and he was found liable. He owes the money. Albeit not to the "phantom" law firm that may or may not have been hired to represent him in this case but had been on retainer to represent him in trials before and after said event occurred or did not occur.

.

hear what your saying militant...but i doubt very much that these lawyer guys would do anything without everything being watertight....and if prince did think he knew more about these legal matters than a bunch of highly paid lawyers....THAT WOULD MAKE HIM AN EXPERT IN CON - TRACTS....?....the very things that he hates more than anything....

.

......i think prince's legal defence of..... ' TELL THE CAT TO CHILL ...WE CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT ! ' ....is more likely the way prince sees legal disputes and ...while its an innocent way to look at it....it wont hold water in court.....

.

he will pay when he has to.....the day after he announces a new world tour... smile

Yeh I understand what you are saying. All I mean is that there always seems to be unnecessary hard work around him. I'm saying this as a Prince fan. It just seems that we spend a lot of time defending him to folks as they see all this stuff before they hear the music-I know you are goin to say I shouldn't care but I just constantly think back to the eighties when I was at school and how people didnt register the brilliance just the rest of it. Most hardcore orgers of which you are one have some sort of hidden sexual link with Prince, you can't hide that his music and image is 70% sexual subject matter.

Hate to say it but your as close as you can be to Laura without knowing her in person because of the time you spend on the website....

[Edited 3/3/11 3:13am]

Everyone who comes to this site regularly cares about Prince - vitriol himself acknowledged this just the other day.

But, as anyone who's despised someone they loved well knows, caring isn't all sunshine and rainbows, at least not when emotions are involved.

That said, the fact that there is only a small percentage of members of this site who have ever met Prince personally, let alone had any meaningful relationship with him, tells me that those who are passionate in their bitterness towards him are most likely using him as a substitute punching bag for someone else (or more likely a composite of people) whom they have issues with, past and/or present.

It sort of works the other way too - those who are passionate in their praise and dedication to Prince use him as a representation of the perfect partner/friend/teacher/etc..., which they can do on one hand because they don't have any hard evidence to the contrary, but which leads to them needing to fiercely defend their perfect guy at all costs, save the fantasy bubble might burst, the same way as the bitter ones can't let him get away with whatever wrongs someone else did to them.

In a lame attempt to justify this increasingly OT post, this is going to affect every single bit of news that comes out about Prince - some want to believe that poor Princey was too busy to notice that he was involved in a substantial legal tangle that is now threatening his family home; others want to see him on the street, paying for his apparent crimes.

One way or the other, everyone on this site cares about Prince, and if you've read this far into this thread, you care about his legal dramas too, regardless of your take on it wink
