I was wondering: Has there ever been any plans from Prince´s side to release a box set? That would be incredible IMO if he had done it the right way. He could for instance have two discs of his own "Best Of", one with "The Funky Tunes" and one with "The slow Jams". He could have one disc with unreleased hidden treasures and one disc of demos, which could show the evolution of some of his masterpieces. And he could even have a disc consisting of a new album with new versions of older or leaked songs. Suggestions for some of the discs:

The One (demo)

Nothing Compares 2 U (studio version)

Electric Intercourse ( studio version)

The Ladder (Piano studio version)

Purple Rain (Studio version)

We Can Funk (Demo)

And even maybe a DVD concert from one of his latest tours.

Prince claims not to be interested in his past except for live concerts which is where his main income is so don't expect any re releases or vault clearances soon. the dude needs to take inspiration from Bruce Springsteen, the Boss has released half the amount of albums but twice the amount of outtakes.

Yes, Prince has had plans to release box sets. The Chocolate Invasion set was shelved and so was a multi-volume sampling collection. Crystal Ball was a released box set.

Yeah, this would have been a nice thing to have in the collection instead of crappy mp3's.

The NPGMC announced in an online teaser the following CD titles / 7 CD collection (on 10/15/2003). Based on material (downloads for club members) from the paste years of The NPG Music Club, the previously club-only edition of the "One Nite Alone" (studio album/CD from 2002) and the so called 'web only MP3 release" album "Xpectation".

UPDATE 03/29/2004: With the opening of the NPGMC's MUSICOLOGY STORE this set is likely withdrawn and cancelled, but the download store offerd 4 of the 7 CD's to download. Left are the collector's and independently released items "One Nite Alone - Solo Piano & Voice" (CD from 2002) and the NPG's "The War" (rare Maxi CD from 1998).

UPDATE 11/15/2003 - according 2 the NPGMC:

"The Chocolate Invasion is put on hold 4 now, indefinitely. There was a problem with the manufacturing and until the bug is worked out, we'd rather not have u wondering when ur home would b invaded. As soon as we have any new info 2 report, u will b notified immediately. The members of the NPGMC deserve the best, thank u 4 ur patience."

I have seen naughty people sell the cd without the box or any of the other content for silly prices on ebay.

IMO the NPGMC was pretty much a waste of my time and money, too few new tracks, merchandise FAR TOO expensive, users being banned and blocked for no real reason unless you agreed with the Mod's .......... then the classic ' there is no such thing as time' to which the reply ' our membership can't run out then '.

Pretty piss poor effort really...............
