is a top 5 hit single better then a hit album? yes we can!

would a top 5 hit single in the uk and usa be better then a hit album?

if lay it down / beginning endlessley as double a side single, would this give more

recognition then a mid range album.

...and how many units/down laods would he need to get back in the top 5?

...are there enough of us to make this happen?

I think the problem is even if the material was good the mainstream public wouldn't know about it anyway...

is 2010 on itunes?

- How about organising an event where every prince fan buys one single on the same day?

- Looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/w...oads_alone

prince fans just need to come together and spend a $1 to help make prince number 1.

It's obiviously not something he's interested in, but worth thinking about. I suppose a movement is possible? But to pick the song that everyone buys...that's the real question!

I'm pretty sure that in the UK, having a hit single means about as much as the shit you do in the morning, unless you are in yer 60's, or 10.

I would like to see the orgers agreeing on one single/song.

I will propose Housequake!

i gotta say, i really don't understand the 'we need to get prince a hit' mentality of some of you. what would be gained by this? bragging rights? to who?

why is it important for the masses to enjoy prince any more than they already do? is anyone unaware of prince's existence or what it is he does? you're already on a fan forum dedicated to the man and his music so it's not like anyone's having a hard time keeping tabs on his output.

i just don't understand the desire... i'm sure lots of you will get all torn up about this but let me put it as matter of fact as possible;

prince will never have another 'hit.' he is not going to release a brand new song that enjoys the successes of past glories like doves cry, kiss, etc... it didn't happen with black sweat and that was the closest he's come in 15+ years at delivering something that maybe could've done it for him... it didn't. for many, many reasons. you can organize 'everyone buy a prince single days' all you like.

my point is prince is not an underground artist, he's a house hold name and a legend. he's an independent artist that played the superbowl half time show... you must see by now that he's an anomaly.

what is it that a hit single would do for you to validate him or your admiration of his music to other people? why is that important?

this is music, not sports. i don't understand the 'go team' philosophy, maybe someone can explain it to me.

i'm blinded by the daisies in your yard....

I gotta say, I like this post.

Although I understand the want of fans to have their opinions validated and even to "help" Prince, a "hit single" at this point requires shelling out more money than the single brings in. Add in Prince's own adversion to good business practices and it becomes clear. Just sit back and see what happens. You may enjoy it, you may pull out your hair, or both. Either way, we have no control over it.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Yeah, who gives a shit. Would you buy more or fewer prince products if they're hits? Like someone else said, "hit don't equal quality." That's the truth.

I totally agree with you. Prince has mainstream tendencies but overall his hit days are probably over. People young and old know who he is but he does not try to be a real pop artist anymore. Prince is basically take it or leave it and that is why I love his work. He does what he wants to do. I think he releases the music he likes the most and not what radio or even fans will really get into. Its nice to have a musician you know is not going to follow all the current trends. Prince is just more true to himself and his own beliefs.

With a REAL video, and a stronger promotion, Black Sweat could have been a top5
