Welcome 2 America T Shirt delivered to UK?

Has anyone had this delivered to the UK yet?

I have just got home to a post office note saying I have to pay £12.41 customs charge?

I am hoping it is not for the T Shirts as I will be complaining if it is.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had any trouble getting theirs?

Thanks

that sounds about right

£8 handling fee, plus VAT on goods valued over £18 plus the cost of shipping, thus £4.41 vat on the goods and shipping means the package value was about £25, or $38 approx

you would have had to pay the £8 if the value was over £18

There wasn't a customs charge for the other T shirt we got from his website? Why for this one?

it depends on the value of the goods. if the value is over £18 then vat is liable, and when that happens the carrier is allowed to charge a handling fee, which is £8 for RM

if the value of goods is £18 or less, shipping can be anything at all, like £50 or £100, and not VAT or duty is liable, thus no feeds. but if the value of the goods is £18.01 and shipping etc is free then you pay the VAT on the value of the goods, plus the carrier can charge a fee. when the value of the goods are above £18, the VAT is based on the value of goods plus the shipping fee. thus if the goods were £18.01 and shipping was £10, then you pay VAT on £28.01, but if the goods were £17.99 and shipping was £100, no charges are due

you said "tshirts" the first time and "tshirt" the last time. if you ordered 2 t shirts at say $20 each, it would push you over the customs limit, whereas 1 t shirt at $25 plus $25 shipping wouldn't incure any charges. thus if these t shirts were more expensive than the last ones it would have pushed you over the customs threshold. sometimes it's cheaper to place 2 seperate orders for dvds and pay more shipping than get 2 dvds delivered together to save on shipping, but then you get hit with the customs charge and VAT

sometimes you get lucky and things slip through the net and you don't get charged VAT, but you can't guarantee that

I had an email on the 7th confirming the T-shirt was being shipped that day but I've seen or heard nothing since. Given the present whiteout I expect it to still be a while yet!

It's all Prince's fault!! lol

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

the import threshold is £18 for commercial purchases (ie. stuff you buy), and £40 for items marked as gift. if hmrc think you paid a penny for the gift they may enforce charges. as the T shirts were a free gift for joining the club, they could legally mark them as a gift, but as you bought these t shirts, the normal £18 threshold applies. it sounds like you bought 2 t shirts at once, instead of 2 seperate sales, thus pushing you over the limit and getting the hmrc charges. it's not the t shirt suppliers fault
