One of my top ten of his efforts. It sound slike it was recorded at 3 in the morning. And for it being a work of fiction he sure got that emotion in it as if it were real.I love his vocal delivery and the "acoustic" production of it.

worship worship worship

If you can track down the live version done on Dec. 26, 1984 from St Paul, MN it is well worth it! Amazing sound and performance!

I love this song as well, but I've always wondered exactly what it was about? Is it a personal song for him or not?

Either way, the vocal delivery is great on this track and it's an over-all very powerful song.

The lyrics are pretty self explanatory. His lover died on Christmas. Prince has said it is fiction.

Sometimes you just have to wonder at how brilliant this guy is. Another Lonely Christmas has a strange effect on me, the way the lyrics are arranged in the mix, the whole whining guitar and flittering drums just drip me in a funk that takes me back to all the lost loves in my life and the heartbreak seems all too present. And when lyrically he reveals that this isn’t just a break-up song, but a song of mourning the whole emotion of the track just goes to another level.

I don't have it but your description gives me an idea. Nice one.
