I have been a fan since the late 70's, but I just think Prince has become completely boring and irrelevant. I have been to all the great concerts: 1999,Purple Rain, UTCM(birthday show in Detroit) LoveSexy, and the list goes on. However, after listening to Sheila E. perform a song he apparently gave to her, it's just more of the same bland, boring music, and I don’t believe he has anything left beyond this style of music. I still purchase what he puts out-hoping each time for something great, but I am consistently disappointed. There might be one or two that I enjoy, but that's just not enough. At this point, I wish he would retire then continue to disappoint us.

eek How arrogant of you to declare Prince should retire because YOU are bored with him! mad If you are bored, then move on. You sticking around with this attitude only makes you look foolish!

Prince is STILL making HOT music and doing kick ass live shows! Some of us still appreciate that and are VERY HAPPY he hasn't retired. I pray that is another 20yrs down the road.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Listen, Prince at his peak was so ahead of his time. He did incredible things that nobody has heard before him, that's what makes him so great. He truly is a musical genius and is gifted.

But just like anybody else who was ahead of their time, time catches up with them. Prince is no different. Accept that and move on.. don't complain. Love and appreciate the music he has given us, I am not really a fan of the current stuff either. That doesn't make him any less great.

Gosh, people can be so demanding. He's just one human being!! eyepop

And just WHEN was this peak? Purple Rain? The 80s? All opinion based. Some people like his 90s stuff better. Some of his late 80s stuff wasn't as good as his current stuff. Its all opinion based. If one doesn't like it, don't listen. Simple as that. I'd take Musicology, 3121, and 20Ten over 1999, Parade, and Lovesexy any day of the week!!

DaphneLovesPR1NCE, I know you are PASSIONATE about P's music but, if I may suggest, you shouldn't be so 'in your face' with your responses. Michigangirl78 has 'verified' that she is 'in fact' a hardcore fan and was voicing her point of view about P's music/lyrics. I on the other hand do not believe she has said anything ... 'foolish ...

Woah woah woah! What?!? The word peak does not mean best. What I meant by peak was at the top of his popularity. His music, what is "the best" can only be determined in opinion. By peak I was obviously talking about his popularity; his popularity in the Purple Rain era is not subjective, it٠s completely objective. Despite what YOUR favorite album is, I think anyone would agree that he was most popular at Purple Rain.

Honestly, I'm sixteen years old. But I thought most fans on here were older and more mature, and also capable of reading and understanding the context of each others' words, respectfully. I guess I was wrong, though.

Next time you should really read what a person is trying to say. I though that it was clear enough to understand. Don't jump and assume right away, because that is not at all what I meant. Hey, if you ask me, my favorites are For You, The Black Album, and Diamonds&Pearls.

I quit caring after Graffiti Bridge. Everything up until that point I was really into and still enjoy. I cant remember what the last album I bought was (maybe Gold Experience). After that one, I just lost interest. Downloaded a few things just to see what was going on, but glad I didn't thow any money away.

you have not evolved with him. like so many, ur overly nostalgic. i can agree with the "hits and misses" but Lotus, 3121, (and for me Planet Earth), were all solid albums. above average, way more interesting than any other "pop star" (let alone at his age) is doing right now. i'd say move on

At least Prince is doing new stuff instead of turning into a fossil that plays only the same old stuff over and over like some older artists. Seems like the old stuff he continues to play, he plays because the fans demand it and he tries to renew the song in some way. I cannot understand how he manages to play Purple Rain without vomiting.

I'm happy he's still creating, even though I don't like a lot of it. His self righteous material also gets on my nerves, but I still love his art, because he still creates. I believe that if he didn't carry folks like Larry Graham around with him, he might let go of some of the staleness. Graham is a great player,. but he hasn't presented anything new in years.

I love me some Prince and he still manages to surprise me occassionally with a beautiful song, especially his live performances.

Totally agreed. Just because he is not at the top like he used to be, doesn't mean he should give up putting out new material. Music is his passion, his world. I agree that everyone has a right to their opinion; to be bored of his new material is totally fine, we all have our opinions and we are not necessarily going to like all of his work no matter how much of a Prince fan someone is. But to ask for him to retire was, in my opinion, totally disrespectful.

So true; at least he is doing and trying new things, instead of some artists who just play the same thing over and over again. Time goes by, it's just something that we have to accept.

Again, I completely agree. Prince is growing older, just like everyone else. He's not going to stay the same person as we always knew him as, physically and mentally. He will grow as a person, so maybe his music might not be as "fun" as it used to be, but he is maturing as a person and it will, of course, show in his music.

Btw, I though 3121 was great too. I didn't hear too much of Lotus, though.

You should be enjoying the Prince music that you do like and enjoying the memories of the great experiences you have had. You sound like you have had great times with your being a Prince fan.

I agree. Live yes (God this topic gets boring every week!), recorded pretty damn poor and irrelevant to nigh on everybody. You want a copy of his latest? I found two in the office recycling bin along with the paper they came with. That's what people think of his recent output. It's treated with the same interest as a Back to the Future dvd in a cardboard sleeve that's given out free with some shit English paper. The Daily fucking Mail ffs! The paper that dons the white hood giving out a black guy's cd. Irony sure is one of the British fortes.

And if it ain't 1984 anymore someone please tell Prince because quite a few of us would love to see him tour one of his recent albums with no "hits". Every man and his dog must have seen him at the O2 so how about changing the record. Read set-list.

Nice of you to be so polite though honer. Says a lot about you. Your mother must be so proud.

Perhaps it's time you do as you say and stop listening to him. So you're saying Prince should stop making music because it's boring to 'you'. That's what you're saying, right?

Right ... No More Candy 4 U ... Time to stop being a fan, that's what time it is. (Not being mean or baiting or flaming you). It's time 'you' stop buying the albums, with all due respect.

I on the other hand, have a ton of unreleased music/concerts that I'm happy with. Listening to a 20 min. version of Noon Rendezvous right now, brilliant, just brilliant ...

I agree with you..everytime an album comes out I'm garunteed a bootleg live per4mance.

The poster needs to do more than the average fan because like you said I'm thouroughly listening to the All Day All Night 4 disc set.

Find what songs you like that Prince has released from the point you bagan to lose interest and focus on those. Everyone seems to be waiting for a 12 to 14 track albums of exceptional music that will have them floored. Not gonna happen! I have never liked a Prince album from beginning to end after immediatley buying it. That comes with time and the new insight you get when listening to the tracks and discovering something new about them. The "phantom Prince CD" everyone is sure he's gonna make one day and recalim his superstar status isn't going to please as many people as they think it would.

There's so much Prince music available now that you could conceivably never listen to the same track twice in one month easily. have fun searching through it all and finding new music that you may have missed.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
