50 ROCK FAILS LIST, PRINCE # 37.

Prince just made the list of the 50 ROCK WORST FAILS of popular music site www.complex.com, the reason is that he skip the We Are the World recording session, a move that I personally think it was really bad ass! Link to the list with the infamous SNL sketch in here:

http://best.complex.com/lists/The-50-Worst-Rock-Fails-Of-All-Time/prince-skips-we-are-the-world-recording-session

Lame list, but funny video, Julia Louis-Dreyfus playing Wendy!

I don't think in retrospect Prince missing We R the World recording session was a "fail", but that video was EPIC! My ribs really hurt now from laughing...

LOL @ Hulk Hogan and Mr. T.

It woudn't have been a fail had he kept his ass inside instead of going out, and having his bodyguards getting into it with the paparazzi and whatnot.

Prince esta muerto...

I totally agree with you, that video and recording was the most egocentric and uptight thing to do. Over the years many artists regretted been involved, including Bob Dylan and Springteen, and the whole "I'm responsible for saving Africa, I wrote We are the World" thing, was heavily criticized by the industry.

But that SNL sketch, show you how double crossing was the USA for Africa brigade (Quincy and company), the responsible for releasing those evil press releases against the artists who not bound down to them, to make them look bad, specially Prince.

The lollipop incident at the AMA's, it was QJ sarcasm to Prince, because Prince was the only one who din't see him as a messiah figure.

Individualism is good too.

Hilarious video.

But lookoing back agree that it was good Prince skipped this. I always thought it was a cheesy song and the whole thing reeked of hollywood egos run amok. We all know he's done his share donating time and money without any hoopla.

I'm glad he wasn't there, there were some pretty amazing artists involved but it's embarrassing to watch. And the Will I Am remake is God awful.

I agree. I don't think it would have change anything on the quality of the song or on sales. Musically speaking this song is such a piece of garbage that i'm happy he doesn't appear on it

He made his contribution and maintained his cred with his core audience at the same time. Remember Prince had just become huge, and a lot of us had our fingers crossed that he would not become a cookie cutter pop star. When he did that it made me feel better about having to share him with the lames in my school who 18 months previously either didnt know him or wrote him off as a freak.

It was a place Prince didn't fit in. That awfully commercal song, all those other stars singing hand in hand, dramatically touched to tears, it's just not Prince. He understood himself, his persona and what the public thought about him and what he did was the only correct thing to do.

If he had joined he'd now be in the top ten of that list, probably, with people saying how pathetic and ridiculous he looked, joining the others with this embarrassing shit.

I'm glad Prince didn't do it though. It's very MJ and very not Prince. He made the right call.

I don't get why Prince gets static for not being on "We are the world". You know, Madonna wasn't there either.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

co-sign. Seems to me like a lot of hype over nothing. He donated an awesome song. Best song on the album. He was under no obligation to be there.

Thank god he skipped that "We Are The World" recording session! The song was crap. Well intentioned crap but crap nonetheless. He contributed a better track (4 the Tears In Your Eyes) to the album and a cool video (same song) to Live Aid. As for going out that night and partying, hell I'd need a drink too after hearing those sanctimonious lyrics.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I actually really LOVE the song! I find it quite respectful and humbling of all the stars that took the time to sing and give back. The song is beautiful, and MJ and Lionel did a great job on it!

And I personally think Prince should have done the song. While he had this bad boy rep going on, it would have gotten him a bit more love from people that didn't like him! Giving the excuse of "sorry, I don't work with other artists" just made him look like a arrogant, pompous ass! Doing the song would have showed the sensitive side of him...no matter how hard he tries to hide it, I know its there! It would be good for him to show people that sometimes, will make it easier to love him...
Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
