Me too.

The hospital equipment beeping an flatlining disturbs me though.

has someone said that the song itself is about his son? my take is that it's about Mayte, with the life support system beeping in the background as setting the scene that the death of their child was the beginning of the end for them.

When NPS came out, people were divided as to whether the song was intended for his son or for Mayte. lol. Was rather funny.

Overdue, that's how I describe the hour, the minute the moment that I first laid eyes on you...

The first time Prince sees his baby. Think about how much Prince must have wanted kids and think of how agonizing it must have been for him to have to wait 9 months for this moment. Certainly "overdue" could describe the length of time for him to finally be able to lay eyes on his own child for the first time.

I guess I knew, that sooner or later this power, would manifest itself into a rendezvous...

The song is about kisses right? The power he is speaking of is the power of the kiss. Think of the power that a kiss holds. Enough to make two people want to be inside each other. Power enough to lead him and his wife in the DANCE ELECTRIC-sexual union. Kissing...leading to sex...leading to pregnancy...leading to the baby's birth...leading to the moment he first laid eyes on the baby.

Small dark room, that's where I let you smother, in front of your gut torn (lyrics are questionable as to gut torn) mother, why should I care?...

Wasn't Prince's baby on life support at some point? So say that this part of the song Prince is reminiscing of being in the hospital where he and Mayte are faced with making the final decision on whether to keep the little baby alive on machines or let him rest in peace and pull the plug. If the baby's life support system was finally shut off, most likely this would have caused the baby to smother and gasp for final breaths.

Why does he say Gut torn? I think this lyric is Gut Torn and can be taken in two ways. Gut torn--Mayte's gut is torn from having to make this decision on her precious son. Have you never been gut torn over a situation? I'm sure like most of us, you have. OR Gut torn...literally. Having just given birth, her gut is torn from the experience of child birth. I think it would be both at the same time. Also, he says "Why should I care", I take this as him not wanting to care because it is just too much but you can tell by the way he sings the word "CARE" in the song that he really does care.

Cheap perfume all over those burgundy stockings, the ones I tied you up with I should have just left em there...

Perhaps this line is directed at Mayte. Remember how scripted Prince's marriage and the pregnancy were? They got married on Valentines day, that night conceived, 9 months later thay had a baby. What if on the night they conceived, Prince tied Mayte up with those perfumed burgundy stockings? If he had just "left em there", they may not have had the sexual union that led to the conception of their doomed child.

Why did I waste my kisses on you...

Sounds cold but those kisses led to death. They were wasted...

The way he spoke about it (fragily, i know) I'm POSITIVE he didn't have that kind of cold lookout.

"Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

I don't think it's about the baby, but if it was, "gut torn" could be a reference to a c-section birth

but the tone sounds more like it is about a regretful sexual relationship with a woman. Until U'r IN My Arms Again sounds much more like the attitude he'd have toward the baby.

I thought Gun Totin' Other was in reference to "Pheromone"

I thought it was about Carmen Electra or Troy Beyer or some girl he dated back then.

Typical...God forbid 'Supa' to ever SIMPLY accept making a mistake...SHE does the usual attacking, when it's called out.

This is the feminist version of 'taking responsibility' folks.

I've heard the son theory before, but I've never bought it. I'd be willing to bet that it's entirely fictional. I'm not sure where people get the idea that he's riping pages from his diary for songs. It's a rare moment when Prince opens up in his music (and I doubt it ever happens these days), and I don't think "Wasted Kisses" is one of those moments.

CLASSIC!...what was 'Supa' saying again about "being offended?"

Listen butch...your blatant hypocrisy is too much of an easy target for me to be bored about..lol..

It's not personal, I have no interest in you...I'm sure you can be a nice lesbian, at times...was just making a broader point about taking responsibility.

The song is about a girl that left him and he goes and kills her. Think about it!

It's funny that anyone would think otherwise, I got this notion from my very first listen.

Anyway, I thought is was pretty obvious, guess not.

Thinking about it now, If ya think it's about his child, y'all digging way to deep.

Seriously, you have to quit thinking that about this song! How does his baby have a gat totin' other, perfume and stockings?!? Some of us may have been born with a penchant for two of those, but going all gangsta in infancy is a little much, even for P's offspring.

Supa, go listen to the other two songs, those are about the baby, NOT Wasted Kisses!!! fryingpan

It's still the only thing that I can think of when I hear this song. and look, all these years later nobody is clear if it's gut-torn, gun totin or gat totin!
