PRINCE LIVE PERFORMANCE MISTAKES

HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN A BIG MISTAKE PRINCE HAS MADE WHILE PERFORMING LIVE ONSTAGE. I JUST WATCHED HIS 1985 GRAMMY PERFORMANCE AND HE REALLY LOOKED TENSE AND NERVOUS. HE WAS PERFORMING BABY I'M A STAR AND DROPPED THE MICROPHONE. I EVEN BELIEVE THAT HE HIT HIMSELF IN THE LIP WITH THE MIKE ONCE HE PICKED IT UP.

In the top right hand corner of each page, there's a search box.

If you type the words:

prince mistake

you will find it identifies very similar threads such as:

Any Prince mistakes you've seen in concert

Does prince make mistakes on stage?

I went to a show years ago and he messed up just about every song... was like what song is this? what is he singing? after two hours of screw up after screw up he started singing a song I finally recognized... "We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling. Gotta make you understand."

oh crap the prince concert was the night before....i had rick rolled myself!

In the middle of the left-hand side of your keyboard, you'll see a button labeled "Caps Lock."

Switch that motherfucker off.

I just watched that again. I remember my friend who was into Prince deeply at school the night after telling me it was weird, that Prince messed up.

BUT

I think he recovered instantaneously from that one and the actual performance after that was great. I'm actually in awe of how well he recovers from a mishap most of the times.

The one I think was bit off was when his mic just kind of swung away during the televised performance of Gett Off... I hate that moment, and the whole performance just kind of seemed a bit low on the intensity to me (outside of the outrageous butt out pants)

I think Prince is a master of recovering and going on with the show in great spirit. Seen when he lost the mic at the beginning of the musicology show? He kept going full blast, I feel like I'm suffering the setback watching.... not him. He's just a pro.

I saw him at the Target center in Dec 1997 and he fell flat on his ass when he was coming down the side ramp to the left of the stage. He yelled out "Someone is getting fired for that". This isn't really a mistake, but funny as hell...Mayte did a stage dive on some MTV show and they were doing Peach and no one tried to catch her and she hit the floor. lol Anoher time at Paisley Park she was dancing on a riser and it broke and she fell then too.

Philadelphia 2004 he completely forgot the lyrics to Sign o the Times in the first verse and completely froze on stage. VERY AWKWARD moment. He scrapped the entire song and moved on the Lets Work. It was a very bad moment for sure.

when did Prince do that?

March 29, 1981.

Party Up II tour.

Detroit.

Cobo Club aftershow.

About 30 minutes in, Prince launches into a blazin' guitar solo on CAPS LOCK -- Switch That Motherfucker Off.

Definite highlight of the tour for me. The Coco For Cobo boot version beats the Small Club boot version by a mile, so don't even go there. no no no!

Shame he never recorded a studio version.

CAPS LOCK -- STMFO is my jam! headbang

As a vegan, I would imagine Prince has taken the stage and uncontrollably sharted on occasion.

He seems he has a thing for making mistakes on Leno:

1998 "Come On" - forgot part of the rap in the outro

2004 "Musicology" - forgot he had a pick in his guitar strings - the broadcast has overdubbed guitar

2009 "Ol' Skool Company" - forgot part the rap bit in the middle

2009 "Dreamer" - plays A G E, instead of G A E in one of the opening riffs

2009 "Feel Better" - again, stuffs some of the lyrics, was seemlessly edited out of the broadcast

lol

But Prince is experienced enough to know how to make it not so obvious if he does make a mistake...

I know about this one 1st hand! We were watching & he kinda froze a little, but recovered nicely.

Same show (which is an absolute stunner of a performance by the way), he kicked over the mic stand and missed the first line of I Would Die 4U.

Watching the video you can clearly see his amazement at his forgetting the lyrics and looking helplessly at the band, nice to see some imperfection.......

Just saw the Grammy 85 performance (I love how someone mentions something on here, but can't post a link so I have to go hunting for it through various means.. its like a wild goose chase!)

JFC that looked like it HURT! He started that perfromance with WAY too much energy, he was HYPE! So you almost knock down the mic, then ACTUALLY knock down the mic, and THEN hit yourself in the face with it. Wow. eek eek eek

He looked cute as hell tho and that slide across the stage with Jerome totally made up for it.

Prince esta muerto...

My favorite is during Scanalous in one of the NYC Act 1 shows... He slipped and fell during a slide back to the mic.

But the best part was his recovery. He paused, then eased back into the song and TORE IT UP!. It proved what an amazing showman he is; putting so much positive energy into what could have been a negative situation. Brilliant!

That's what I mean... that's so pro. I can't imagine the feeling of messing up in front of that many people. But he recovers nicely!

1. Opening night of 21 Nights, he got the lyrics to Girls & Boys completely round the wrong way...

2. The Lovesexy Dortmund '88 video, he makes a mistake during I Wish U Heaven by going to sing a little early and Miko points to him as if to say "Today, you got it wrong"...

3. Getting Shelby J to sing a 7 minute version of Angel at Arras... stopped that show on a coin!! lol

On Lovesexy '88 live, it's not his mistake, but Bob George is all messed up in timing when the snare starts up.

I'd say him coming in early on his vocal line would be his mistake... but what do I know! lol

Saw him totally flub The Love We Make at House Of Blues Vegas in 04. Was the 1st time he played it live I believe. He ended up skipping the verse entirely. If you weren't a die hard you probably didn't notice.

I think Judy Garland recorded a version of CAPS LOCK -- Swith That Motherfucker Off, back in her MGM days? We played it at my grandma's funeral. It was her favorite song.

Anybody ever notice that between now and the last 10yrs it sounds like he's saying "Las Vegas" at the end of a song? He did that at the 7.7.7 show in Macy's in Minneapolis, he did it at the Paisley Park show in Minneapolis back in Oct. 2009. I keep thinking I have hearing problems ... LoL

LiveSexy Dortmund 9-9-1988
I believe it was at the start of his guitar solo in Anastasia that his white Axe (spaceage wink guitar is not plugged in.
At first he was hitting the poor thing like mad, then when he thought he was off camera he started to wave his arms as if a runaway train was coming at him y Y y Y y <-- like that. I was there and, it was so funny from up close!
When he realised that he was still on camera he finally made his arms perform some weird new armdance.
It's still visible in the LiveSexy video, but in a really long shot across the arena.

He does that on rehearsals in the days/weeks before a Tour premiers elsewhere, to get it right the first time wink
