The official 'Le New Morning' (FBG) discussion thread

Well, it's out there.

3-disc set. Great art.

"Beautiful Strange" sounded great (LOL at the guy in the audience yelling out "17 DAYS! 17 DAYS" before the song started.

"Purple Music"....whoa!!

"Future Soul Song" on piano was incredible....is there anyone still doubting that this song is a bonafide Prince classic up there with his best work after hearing this version?

Haven't listened to the entire show yet, but getting through it all and loving it smile

wow, that seems a little rushed. I am always wary about super quick release as they then come out later with in better quality. As for FSS it really is great BUT he's done it many times before - best example has to be Pink Cashmere.

The synths on "Kiss" sound fantastic! If that's Cassandra playing, she's a great addition to the band.

Excellent. Been waiting for this to appear.

How's the sound quality (given that they had to drop the left channel) ?

Don't worry, as with past FBG and 4DaFunk releases, the likes of Sabotage and Eye Records will be downloading the recent FBG 20Ten tour releases and burning them to disc ready to sell to those who don't know any better. Of course they won't mention that in the liner notes.

You'll need to search for it yourself (it shouldn't be hard to find). Org rules prevent us from specifying where bootlegs may be obtained.

the comments i've read indicated that there was a problem with the left input, so they had to clean it up somehow.....any feedback as to whether it's a clean recording?

I am still on cd1, but i can confirm this is a very clean recording. I am very fussy when it comes to the sound quality of boots, but so far i'm impressed.

"FBG opted for the most clean (but not the easiest) solution:
they removed the entire left channel and worked the audio from one channel."

Which is what I was asking about earlier. Just finished the d/l and have only listened to a few tracks, but quality seems pretty good, despite being from only one channel.

I can't understand people.

Prince -FOR A CHANGE- plays an astounding gig. It is shared FOR FREE right away, and still you are reticent about grabbing it because there might be sound quality issues.

If these sound issues hadn't been properly advertised maybe some of you would find the quality more than ok and wouldn't worry about only one channel being used.

And, of course, had this been a Sabotage release and had you paid good money for it you'd be jumping and thanking the heavens because such a gig could be recorded.

So I can only say 2 things:

1) If you have such reservations and your extra fine ears can't bear with a perfectly listenable recording don't grab it and/or don't listen to it.

2) Thanks FBG, once more!

I, for one, wouldn't have even noticed. The sound quality is never perfect on an audience recording, anyway. shrug

Well I certainly wouldn't be complaining about the sound quality - very good to my ears btw. Thank you to all involved with recording this set and distributing it free of charge to us fans who were not able to be there to experience it first hand. Wonderful job. cool

The disparity between Prince's current sounds live and in studio is perplexing.
