No over analyzing here, or trying to figure out what it sounds like from the past. Just an awesome tune.

Walk in Sand

after a long journey

the final mile

I wish I could walk together

all the while

after a mild labor

we both smile

All of the ?? that we lost

both of us in denial

because nothing is beter

that a walk in sand

hand in hand with you

nothing is beter

that a walk in sand

hand in hand with you

another sun is rising

2 bed with no delay

the both of us go despising

not enough time 2 play

memories come and

then they go

somewhere far away

why can't we just get lost together

and spend each and every day

doing it

(chorus)

walk in sand

we have danced with royalty

and pimps of the like

u can't please everybody

but such is life

if there was only one thing

in this world that was true (just one thing)

nothing is better in this world that 2

walk in sand with u

(chorus)

All of the battles that we lost, both of us in denial

Ok so at track 7 I start to want to reach for that >> button. Whereas Future Soul Song was all that is right about a Prince ballad, this is the lesser twin that encompasses all the elements that are wrong. It's just feels too cliche and the kind of song Prince can write while napping, and maybe that's why it makes me yawn. Next.

Yup, several spins later and this song still does absolutely nothing for me. It's so forgettable I could forget it's playing... I actually think this is now, for me, the worst song on the album.

I could say "it's too cheesy, too sweet, I want Beautiful Ones! Scandalous! I hate U! Adore!".

But no. I absolutely LOVE this.

Ok, the lyrics... cheesefest.

But this ballad just sounds and feels SO good compared to all the Call my names, 4evers and All the Midnightses...

This could have been on Prince's 2nd album.

And Prince, please play this live! In a Montreux-type setting! Horns, flute, the backing girls, heaven!

Just goes to show how we all as fans appreciate different racks. This for me is the standout ballad. Maybe it's the live band feel. I'm lovin' this track. Drums/ piano/ flute. Love to hear this live. Money Don't Matter Tonite vibe to me and that's a cool good thing.

The music and the meldoy is the true saving grace of this song. It will not work for you if you have no one to think about, or at least it would not me. It has true trade mark roots of a Prince love song.

I did find myself buying a pony and a box of maxi pads after listening to it though.

We are all so full of doody here

I appreciate the old school flavor of the song. Prince does well with shit like this.

I dig the old school vibe as well, but the songwriting strikes me as a little lazy on this one. The chorus is very repetitive and doesn't really lead anywhere. It sounds like he had an initial burst of inspiration but just settled with the first thing he came up with.

This song reminds me of something that could have been on the Love Symbol record, which was probably the last time i really enjoyed his ballads. To me all his ballads lately have all been the same, i mean "on the Couch" "satisfied" even Call My Name though a good song, doesnt hold up anymore to me, stuff like he was doing like "sweet baby" and "God created Woman" still interest me now, almost 20 years later

I LOVE this song. This is a song that gets better and better with each listen. I find myself singing along to the chorus now when I listen to it. I love the music and how it grooves and the lyrics just flow perfectly with this music here. I see myself on the beach on a beautiful sunny day with this one. cool

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

yeah its a strong track and well produced and played, probably all by him. I still dont get how people are calling this album "throwaway" material, shit if he throws this stuff out, then 90% of artists need to dig through his "throwaways"

Dude, everytime I hear this song, I think of Sweet Baby! It's in that family of ballads that are light and airy but not cheesy in the process.

I don't either. There is nothing "throwaway" about this song at all. Maybe it's his voice or that maxi-pad reference brought up earlier lol but this song IMO isn't boring AT ALL.

exactly, and its not easy to NOT be cheesy with a love song, because the sentiment can always come off cheesy. But this is simplistic and compilacted too, great production and instrumentation.
