I really think Prince needs to be careful when he speaks-I would hate to have the media messing with him like they use to do MJ sad Now that he is gone they need a new face to pick with neutral heaven knows they ridiculed MJ literally to death.

Dude is crazy like a fox. He's all anyone's talking about.

In response to what these "news" folks were saying:

I really do think that Prince is talking about something that goes beyond the money, and that is the art. The fact is that albums may "be over," but they shouldn't be. Digital killed the art of record making (indirectly) when rcord companies forced the public to make the shift to CDs. They all but abandonded the single format, which made rock and roll what it is today...

These people got bored and try and fix something that was never broken. Then, when computers came into the mix, the single was re-born. And now they're talking about albums being a thing of the past. HOW SAD! The album is an art form. Not many artists today know how to make them anymore. Thanks be to God that Prince does, or at least cares about the art...

i agree but to say the internet is a over seems like prince took it into a different direction. but yeah i have thought about what u just said. im 16 so ive grown up with getting music just off itunes or limewire, and i usually just buy one or two songs not the whole cd. but i think that prince music really kinda changes that, when he comes out with a cd i go buy it for its entirety not for 1 or 2 songs bc u know that the songs on the album are linked together in a way and make up his artwork. cool

They COMPLETELY didn't take to mind that HE IS GIVING THE MUSIC AWAY. Obviously he is not worried about singles. IT doesn't mater to him. He's already beend paid for the record by thre magazines that are distrubiting. He doesn't have to gamble. He's getting paid and the payment is satisfortory to him...obviously...if he's doing it. He knows it's gonna get prirated to hell...but he don't care...he got his check int he bank already.

Well this is how the stupid media works, ladies and gentlemen. One statement, however misguided, has suddenly put Prince back on the map and not in a good light. But thing is he could care less, he getting paid.

But one comment from someone deemed a has-been by "cool kids" is now the hot topic. Find a celebrity who says a weird statement and he gets the front page. That's how the media works now. Sensationalism rules and journalism keeps dying.

See this is why sometimes entertainers always end up putting their foots in their mouths. People could be serious in what they say and the media uses it, turns it around and they become laughingstocks. I just fear this don't happen to Prince but he's already being branded as some crazy old geezer who went out with the Jheri Curl. No respect. And if things get sour with him and the Mirror, the Mirror will indeed turn on him too.

Prince has to, and I bet he does understand, that no matter what he says, it'll never be in the way he means it. Now he's said this and folks are having a field day with it. Meanwhile Prince cashing his checks, he probably don't even know he's causing such a fervor with this. Unnecessary fervor. I mean agree with him or disagree with him, it was his opinion. But I guess this is why he differs from us (meaning folks who are talking on a message board) because we can say "the internet's dead" and people are like lol and moving on. Prince said this and he's on the evening news!

Yeah, I don't really feel bad for celebrities per se, but the way that media reports things, I can understand why so many of them are fed up with it. I even remember back to the early 00s when VH1's Bands Reunited was featuring a lot of 80s bands that one band member (I can't remember which band it was) nearly refused to open the door because of the way media portrays artists no longer in the biz. Sad.

Exactly. The media don't give a shit who you are, they'll pounce on you and act clueless no matter how long you've been in the business. That's how the mainstream media is handling what Prince is saying. "That crazy loon need to lock himself in Paisley Park and go play with his doves" or some shit. People don't give a shit anymore.

The thing that gets me is that nobody mentioned what the sales are of CD's. How many are sold the world wide? If the media is to be believed, people only buy from itunes and play music on their ipods and iphones. What about everyone else who doesn't have the internet or spend their lives gazing at a computer screen?

The 'market' for music, does not wholly consist of everyone with an itunes account. What about Beatles fans? What do they do, chuck out their existing stuff and endlessly click on itunes hoping for the day when the catalogue comes forth? Telling me I'm buying shit on itunes, doesn't make it so.

They also forgot to mention that Prince makes more money by selling the CD to the publication then he would to itunes or warners. There's the point.

The icing on the cake was that whole 'Brady Bunch' conference call, which would have diluted the 'serious' news, had there been any.
